Rune POV

I sat silently behind Connor, my boyfriend and team mate, as the Colonel basically volun-told us that we were going to be exposed to gamma radiation in order to enhance our powers. I was sitting on a table that had a bench attached to it, Connor sat in between my legs on the bench. I ran my hands through his shoulder length brown hair, braiding tiny sections and holding them together by putting paper clips on the ends. I made little buns all over his head with rubber bands and I was incredibly surprised that he hadn't noticed yet. He probably just liked the feeling of having his hair combed through.

Ace giggled, bumping shoulders with me, trying not to burst out laughing. I grinned and placed a finger in front of my lips, bumping her shoulder in return. We were shushed by some random scientist in the room, to whom I made an incredibly rude gesture.

The rest of the team snickered and stifled laughs, I smiled innocently at the general who had stopped talking to glare at me. I fake zipped my lips, locked them, and tossed the key behind me. He arched an eyebrow before he started talking at us again.

I leaned forward and loosely wrapped my arms around Connor's neck, gently placing my chin on top of his head. I felt his large hands grasp my much smaller ones as he leaned back further into me, I scooted forward a bit more until he was comfortably in my arms.

"You will be exposed to gamma 13 radiation, in order to make your powers more powerful." The colonel shouted. I furrowed my brows at his incredibly loud statement, before raising my hand.

"Yes, you. Destroyer!" He called.

"It's Wrecker. And why would we need gamma radiation? We've taken down hundreds of bad guys already with our regular powers. Why would we need more power? I mean, what if the radiation causes our powers to go out of control? Or what if it messes with our mental and physical capabilities? What if our bodies don't have the capacity to take more power? Have you thought of any of this?" I questioned, raising some very good points. The team all nodded along with me, knowing that I was smarter than almost every scientist in the entire facility combined. Dr. Grant stepped forward, his hands up in an I-mean-you-no-harm way.

"We've gone through all of the data, and checked every equation. It won't do that to-" but I cut him off.

"Data and equations mean nothing in a real life situation like this. Things don't always go by the equations, theories aren't the real thing. Have you even tested this?" I interrogated. The team moved closer to me, showing that they had my back. Dr. Grant's eyes started twitching like they always did when he was irritated or nervous, the Colonel looked back and forth between us before stepping forward.

"Don't think that I was suggesting anything, Destroyer. You will be exposed the radiation, whether you like it or not. I want the gamma prepped and ready in two days. And since you're so doubtful, Destroyer, you'll go first." The colonel hollered. I glared, clenching my fists.

"It's Wrecker. And don't say I didn't warn you." I snarled, he paused in marching out of the room. Before he continued. I sighed, my shoulders slumping. Marksman came up and patted my shoulder, Ace rubbed my arm.

"What do we do, Zoom?" Daravia asked. Jack sighed from his seat beside Connor.

"I guess we have to go through with this." He sighed, he stood and turned to look at all of us. He had the same beautiful blue eyes that Connor had, they were brothers after all. Ace sighed and stood from her seat, she looked at all of us before looking to Connor. More specifically, his hair.

She laughed, shaking her head. The rest of the team looked at Connor before noticing his hair, they all tried to hold in laughs but they slowly cracked when they saw Connor's confusion.

"What?" He questioned, looking up at me. I tried and failed to give him an innocent look, I shrugged. I slowly slid off the table as he felt around his head, I inched my way towards the door. I was already halfway down the hallway, almost running by the time he realized.

"RUNE!!" Connor roared. I squealed before taking off like a rocket, I zipped around corners and slammed into people. I gave a quick apology to a scientist I ran into before squeaking when Connor slid around the corner, glaring at me.

I sprinted away, not taking the time to apologize when I slammed into somebody else.

"RUNE! I'M GONNA GET YOU!" Connor screamed, catching up to me. I let out a scream as I felt his hand brush against my back, I shrieked and laughed as I picked up the pace. I laughed wildly, my hair whipping behind me as I jumped away from Connor's attempts at catching me.

I ran into a crowded hallway, still shrieking. I yelped as I bumped into someone and tripped over someone else's foot. I laughed as I scrambled upright, hearing Connor's laughter behind me. I slammed into many people and I could hear Connor's curses and apologies as we tore through the hallway.

He caught up to me again but I danced out of his reach again, giggling as I did so. He growled and finally just tackled me to the ground once we reached a secluded hallway. I screeched as I fell to the ground, Connor falling on top of me. He turned me over to my back as I squirmed, laughing and trying to crawl away.

"No no no no no no nonononono." I giggled, he straddled my waist and trapped both my wrists in one of his hands above my head. He chuckled and rested his face in the crook of my neck in order to catch his breath.

"You're going to have to punished now." He breathed, staring me down with his startling blue eyes.

"Why? It's just a couple of braids and buns." I whined, knowing full well what he meant by punished.

"Well, you resisted arrest." He explained, giving me a cheeky smile. And then he jabbed his fingers into my side and I shrieked. I kicked and screamed and laughed.

"STOP! Hahaha staaaaaahp. Please." I begged, my voice laced with laughter and panic.

"Say you love me and that I'm absolutely amazing." Connor cried.

"But I'm the amazing one!" I managed to get out through shrieks of laughter.

"Say it or I won't stop." He insisted, laughing as I tried to buck him off with my hips.

"Say it. Saaaay it." The tickling got more intense if that was even possible.

"OKAY! Okay! I love you and you're absolutely amazing!" I screeched. He stopped tickling me immediately like he promised. He grinned down at me before lifting himself off of me and sitting beside me, I glared at him and pouted. I punched his shoulder as hard as I could before crossing my arms and turning away.

"Owww. Aww, babyyyyy. Don't be mad." He said in a soft voice. I pouted even more and closed my eyes when he slid himself in front of me, he grasped my chin.

"Rune. Ruuune." He called. I shook my head, he sighed. Then his lips were on mine. I tried to stay still, tried to resist, I failed. I kissed back and wrapped my arms around his neck. He kissed my fake anger away, running a gentle hand through my hair. After a few minutes, he pulled away, a gorgeous smile lighting up his face.

"I love you." He murmured. Happiness swelled in my chest, I smiled so wide that my cheeks actually hurt.

"Love you back." I replied like a dork, a silly grin on my face. He laughed and pecked my lips before standing and pulling me up with him. He laced our fingers together, staying close to me as we started walking to the mess hall. The moment was ruined however when several scientists stared openly at us. Well, at Connor. More specifically, at his hair.

I rolled my lips inward and tried to look innocent as Connor let out a huff and started stomping to the mess, dragging me behind him. I laughed and squeezed his hand, he glanced back at me and gave me a soft smile, mouthing that he loved me.

That's the last memory I have of us where we were happy.
