Sill's fur brushed against firm bushes as he raced across the stretched woodland, merging with his pack. Fellow Direwolves flew through the leafy terrain of the dense forest, occasionally letting out sharp growls and barks. They were returning home from an extremely successful hunt. Nearly every wolf's jaws were laden with prey. Rabbits, squirrels and other small critters all dangled from the mouth of the pack. As they neared the shallow dip that held the wolf camp protected, Sill's ears picked up tiny squeaking. A new litter of pups. Sill raced to the front of the herd, ears pricked for more details. Suddenly, a white wolf scampered forward hurriedly to meet him. His ice-blue eyes danced with excitement.
"Sill!" Ash gasped."You're a father!"
Sill froze. His jaw dropped, releasing a plump young rabbit.
"Show me. I have to see!" Sill exclaimed breathlessly.
Sill's unique green eyes glimmered with anticipation. They raced swiftly to the heavily guarded nursery. He effortlessly brushed by the leafy opening of the bramble wall, to see his mate, two small bundles huddled next to her hazel-brown fur. Sill's own ash-grey pelt bristled with excitement and joy, taking in the sight of his two small children, barley knowing how to suckle. One small pup was purely white, with green eyes resembling Sill's, and the other had a thin, slick coat splashed with darkness, completely black, and had intriguing slate eyes. Sill stared in pure joy, quickly rushing to his mate's side.
Hazel, soaked with sweat, was curled up in a nest of grass and other soft material.
Though she was still panting in pain, her eyes shone with pride and love for her newborns. She gazed up at Sill." I knew you would worry, Sill. But I'm fine. Our pups are fine." She said with a hint of amusement in her voice.
" W..what shall we name them? " Sill gasped.
Hazel affectionately nudged the white male pup. He squealed." I'm thinking... Sky, for our son." Sky's ears pricked up, as if he liked that name.
Sill nodded. He licked the night black female pup." Hmm..... uh, Prilla?" Sill tried lamely.
Hazel rolled her eyes." Prissy,.. Lela...oh, I don't know!" Sill howled in frustration. Hazel looked shocked. The wolf clan never showed weakness or frustration. Wolves are strong and confident.
" Raven?!" He barked. Hazel finally looked up, and her eyes showed interest.
" Raven." She whispered. She did her best to thump her tail to the ground, despite her lack of strength. Raven hopped up and down. As the new family huddled together, love pounding in their hearts, the full moon rose, casting light over all the wolves below.
