Sill flew through the thick forest, no prey in sight. His eyes darted from side to side as he slowed to a fast trot. He sniffed, a unfamiliar scent wrapping him. He narrowed his eyes. He signalled for his apprentice, Snow, to halt. Sill screeched to a stop as well.
He gestured for Snow to crouch, as he lowered himself to the ground and flexed his sharp nails. His ears flatted to his head, and his lips raised in a slight snarl. He finally spotted a small human approach the dense forest, shouting and squealing. Sill remained in his position as the little boy neared his hiding spot. The little boy cried and Sill could pick up the sound of whimpering from Snow. Sill growled, daring the boy to come nearer, though he had not yet seen the lurking wolves. Suddenly, the small boy retreated to the huge village a small way off form the forest. Sill rose from him crouch, stretching his legs.
"Come on." Sill barked hastily to his apprentice. "Let's go."
They hurried back to camp, spooking at every rustle of grass. On the way back Snow managed to catch a small mole. Sill praised his growing apprentice has he padded back to camp, tail raised high in the air. As soon as Sill entered the camp, he rushed to the leader's den, quickly informing his apprentice about his retreat. Snow nodded, the prey clamped in his jaws.
Sill padded towards the entrance to the den, dipping his head as he called.
" Maple? May I come in?"
"Yes." My leader replied from the depths of her shadowy den.
He slipped into the dark den, the air a touch chillier. He finally picked out Maple from the dark shadows dancing beside her.
"What is it?" Maple questioned.
" Not much, just a human pup wandering close to our borders." Sill replied hastily.
" Was there an adult with him?"
"No"
"Alright, I'll tell the patrols to look out for it. We'll be careful, thought it's just a pup. One pup could lead to a lot of chaos."
Sill nodded. He returned to his den, the stars above glistening. He curled up among the soft ferns and moss has he slowly drifted to sleep.
