"How the hell did you get all the way up there?" Moreau marveled from down below.

"Um...." I responded realizing just how high I really was.

"You clever little human."

"Well now it makes sense. You really could hear us. We should probably tell Kaden we found her," the blonde familiar guy concludes.

"Are you going to come down willingly, or do we have to come and get you?"

I look at Mara and she nods for me to go ahead. Suddenly I blink and she's a small rodent animal scattering down the large tree. It was then on the ground beckoning me to follow. I shiver and blink to make sure I didn't just imagine that. Gods, I really don't want to do this, especially if there's a possibility that Kaden might just decide to kill me. Yeah he spared me before but there are only so many more straws until the last one. I took a deep breathe and jumped, the wind ripping against my cheeks until I come to a stop landing on something...someone hard.

"Fuck!" The blonde on yelled knocking me away from him. Moreau grips my arm and hauls me to my feet chuckling at my landing spot.

"Did they leave already?" Moreau asked Kaden's brother. I felt something small claw, not crawl, but claw up my leg. I could feel individual sharp pinches moving higher and higher up my body until it finally settled on my shoulder. It took me everything not to flinch or scream, I had to keep reminding myself that it wasn't some random animal plotting around my skin. It was just the mysterious Mara being a bitch.

"I'm not a bitch I'm just watching out for you. My claws are a small price to pay. Your welcome," I heard her voice say. It wasn't squeaky like I expected it to be, and I doubt anyone else was able to hear it either. I swear Mara's just another mystery, but one I don't want to solve.

"Yeah we'll have to catch up to them, they're probably in the city by now," the guy replied to Moreau with an irritated groan as he directed his annoyance towards me.

"Just corporate with them Angel, Kaden isn't going to hurt you, I promise," Mara assured me.

"We'll have to move fast," Moreau said grabbing my arm and tugging me along. His blonde friend turned and yelled a loud howl into the air. The sound made my ears ring, and it was followed by several more each a bit further sounding from the last.

"They'll wait for us at the city," the blonde one announced.

*******

I pant as I desperately try to keep up with Moreau's fast pace. The other guy tailed behind us to make sure I didn't get some crazy idea to try to run back, and to be honest the only think keeping me from actually trying to flee was little Mara planting her rodent claws into my back every time I hesitated with my next step.

"My feet hurt," I complained after what felt like hours of practically running.

"Humans are so weak, she's slowing us down," the blonde guy groaned.

"I'm not a big strong monster like you. I have a soul, and I actually get tired."

"What does having soul have to do with you being tired?" He sneered.

"Maybe if you had a soul you'd know."

I felt Mara's small rat teeth come down into my cold flesh. They were small, but sharp as hell, and there were so many of them. Maybe they were suppose to be a warning or a piece of advice to shut the hell up, but whatever it was it scared the hell out of me. I jerked in response, and it caught Moreau's attention immediately. Moreau stopped in his tracks and turned to face us.

"Did you just touch her?" He accused the blonde guy.

"What! No! I didn't lay a hand on the bitch!"
