...But that was in 8th Grade is set in the early 90s where now married Prince and Angela reminisce on the first time they crossed paths in the 8th grade. In the 8th grade, Prince was an excellent basketball player but also a failing student while Angela was an honors student gymnast and his coach's daughter. Prince begs his coach, coach Nichols, to let him be a starter in one of their upcoming games along with more playtime in all of their games but because of his height and failing grades, coach Nichols only has him on the bench more than the coach. Coach and Prince constantly bump heads until Angela comes to one of the team's practices and sees Prince's massive talent, causing her to beg her father to let Prince to play in a few games and be a starter in one game. Coach Nichols agrees but only on one condition: He has Prince play and be a starter if Angela helps Prince with his schoolwork.
