"10, 11, 13, 14," yawned Daren as he continued to throw the arrows that would have made the majority which formed the ground if it hadn't been for the corpses.

Well this rules out the fact that this is the kind of trap that loses its effect over time, thought Daren as he broke the shaft of the arrow which he was about to project next with his fist. This could mean only one thing, thought Daren as he reached for the pouch that hung from his belt. From it he soon produced a circular device and bore one of his remaining two fingers on his metal arm onto one of the knobs that decorated the device.

Immediately the device sprang into life producing a waveform that made Daren's heart skip a beat. Surely it cannot be. Not here of all places. Daren began to feel chills riding up his spine which he knew had nothing to do with the rain that had cooled the heat of battle. There's no mistake, it has to be him, only he is capable of stirring the energy in nature to form a point of such high focus. Daren hastily pressed on the other knob of the device and held it to where the corpses formed the mound only to gaze in astonishment at the device. But... How.. The Renegade told us that he could only clad energy around him as if an armor. This... This, contradicts his theory verily, Daren thought to himself as he stared at the display of the device which was blinding due to what it was trying to show its user. An immense cocoon of energy.

Moulded in such a unique manner around the mound that the tendrils which surged throughout giving it form could easily cut open a man in half, regardless of what armor he may have upon him. It was a trap. Surely it would have claimed the lives of Saundra's servants if they had tried to remove the corpses from the mound as instructed by their mistress. How clever, thought Daren in disbelief of the ingenuity of this contraption. Little time did he have to appreciate such a marvel was he struck by another thought, one which made him scan the entire landscape once more to reassure himself that he was the only living entity present at this massacre.

For this to work the energy must have a source, this I know for certain, thought Daren as he switched off the device while he placed the device in its allotted place. And to sustain such an instrument together it would require a tremendous amount of energy which if my knowledge doesn't fail, no single person cannot posses, unless of course you are the Renegade. So how... How are you manipulating this child.

Daren struggled to piece the information he had gathered thus far to form a valid explanation. Furthermore to manipulate energy to such a complexity one needs to be in close proximity, thought Daren as he could spot none but himself to be alive. So how... Wait! Could it be that simple!

Daren hastily reached back into his pouch and retrieved the device which had  managed to bring light to his predicament in hopes that it would once again commit to him and show that which he fails to see. Pressing on the knob he held the device towards the cocoon of energy engulfing the mass of bodies, but this time he surveyed around the body of energy to clarify that the energy was not in fact being channeled into the cocoon but rather, it was being sustained on its own. Daren was rendered utterly perturbed. If the device is at best in its functioning, which I know it should be, he has to be inside the pile of bodies!
