Elfrida
"You have got to be kidding me, Matthew! Come on!"
Those were my words to my idiot cousin ten minutes earlier. You may be wondering what Matthew has done now, so late in the night. Keep wondering. I'm not one to reject stuff, but this is absurd. Totally absurd.
But I know someone who would like this absurd.
Someone who would kill for this absurd.
Dennis
April 1st
I can believe I actually dreamt of Elfrida. Not that I haven't dreamt of any girl before, if you know what I mean. The difference is that I just see the girl in my dreams without her telling me to dream of her. In this case, Elfrida told me to dream of her. I told myself not to dream of her. But I ended up dreaming of her. Coupled with what she did to me yesterday, I have come to the conclusion that Elfrida is torturing me. Mind games, you may say. But I say: THIS IS PURE WITCHCRAFT.
My parents have gone to work as normal, so it's me and my necessary evil once again. I hope she doesn't pull an April Fools prank on me, because if she does......
"Dennis!"
I curse under my breath before turning to view a characteristically-exuberant Amarachi. My everyday experience with her is always the reverse of serendipity. I can see her phone in her hand. I think she wants to show me something.
"Do you remember Linda Ikeji's blog?" She asks, panting.
"No. I don't. I was born yesterday, remember?" Stupid girl.
"I'm sorry, Dennis. I assumed wrongly, given that you don't talk about it as much as I and mum."
That's why I'm the man.
"Anyways, you need to see this." She stretches the phone towards me. It's a post accompanied by a picture of the president-elect and the soon-to-be first lady. And a very, very inviting and unusual title.
Buhari kisses his wife passionately to celebrate winning the election.
Unbelievable.
Wow!
I give her a surprised look before yanking the phone off her. I seriously have to see this.
I seriously.....
I seriously have to see the fact that there is no kiss. I have just been April fooled, courtesy of Linda Ikeji and my stupid sister.
Not again.
Urghh!
Wincing in regret, I drop the phone on the couch before dashing up, groaning in regret. As usual, Amarachi tags along, laughing hysterically, basking in the euphoria of her latest victory. I just can't believe it.
Mind you, I have a very bad April 1st record. I always get pranked. Always. Every blessed year. On this day last year, I woke up after having a hectic evening the day before. I got set for school and everything. Shortly before I left, my dad told me he wanted to show me something. I had no idea, whatsoever.
I went to the dining table where he was, just as he pulled out a PlayStation4 from behind him, exclaiming "Surprise!"
I literally screamed and hugged my dad for the first time in almost a decade. I had been begging him for a PS4 since it came out the previous December. After mouthing about seven Thank Yous, I yanked off the seals to reveal an old, cranky DVD set. Not the console I was expecting.
