After a couple of days i was sent home, the mail had a credit watch from the company who made the implant, and a check from my work. It also contained a letter from my work saying i didn't have to come back. However, that was several days ago, i'm in my apartment. The days I've been home I don't know what to do. I've just been sitting in this dark apartment, sitting on my bed, thinking I'm going to die. I haven't eaten anything, or left the house.
"I can't just waste my days sitting here! But what do I do!?" I shout, kicking my bedside table. Then i look down at my communication ring and remember i had Dr. Hart's number! Pushing down the top and scrolling with my hand i find his name and select it.
"This is Dr. Hart," i hear, as the screen in front of my face turns black.
"Dr. Hart, this is Steven," I say, standing up and start to pace around my apartment.
"Ah Steven, what can I do for you?" he asks happily.
"I don't know what to do, i have been inside my apartment the whole time and i don't know what to do." I answer, my mind raging at myself.
"Well, do you have any family to go and see?" Dr. Hart questions.
"No... I'm an orphan," I reply quietly.
"I see, then I urge you to go somewhere you go often, like a restaurant or a park. Then after that start to move your way to new places and meet some new people, okay?" he suggests.
"Okay, got it. Thank you, goodbye" i say quickly, and hang up.
Then I run to my closet, get some clean clothes on, put on my glasses, grab my credit watch and car keys, and leave the house. Okay, so I will go to my favorite coffee shop, I think I am a regular there. The drive wasn't long at all, I should've just walked, but i guess I wasn't thinking very rationally.
As I walk in, a familiar bell rings and the bitter-sweet smell of coffee floats by me, bringing a slight smile to my face. Then I hear the familiar female voice say "Welcome," as i take a seat at my normal table, by the window in the far right corner. "Presque Bon Coffee Shop" it's my favorite place for coffee in this city, it also isn't flooded with people at any given time.
"Your usual, Sir?" the female voice asks me.
"Yes please," I reply, looking out the window as usual. It's kind of funny, I've never seen what my waitress looks like. I've always just been looking out the window. Even with my winning personality, i have never connected with anyone before. As a kid I was always studying or reading books, i never really talked to any of the other boys in the orphanage. I guess I just never understood why I should connect with others.
Then for the first time i turned away from the window and looked around the coffee shop. Looking around i see three women and six men, but like me none of them were with anyone else. They were all alone and consumed in their own worlds. Then i saw it, a smudge on my left glasses eye piece! Taking them off and putting them down I look around, now I couldn't see anyone's face clearly at all. It was at this moment that my mind came up with a philosophy.
With my eyes that I was born with I can't see anyone. Seeing anyone for who they truly are, that is. But when I put on the eyes others have giving to me, I can see everyone, but not for who they truly are. It's not my eyes that are flawed, but just unable to see what's pasted the surface. For me it is harder to see someone that's far away, but if they're close I can truly see them with my eyes.
"It's said that there are three things a person can watch forever; fire, moving water, and other people talking," the female voice says to me. Quickly turning my head to the voice I see her clearly. She is tan, light, brown hair, ice blue eyes that get darker the closer it is to the pupil, no make-up, good cheekbones, long straight hair put into a pony tail, with two thin bangs hanging down the side of her face.
