The Crack of Dawn

Chapter 4- Mateus

I raised the soda can to my mouth and chugged the whole thing down. Music was blaring in the background and we all danced to the music. Everyone was partying in the living room chomping down on Cheetos puffs and Coka Cola. Kai and I were sitting in the dining room taking a break. We had both gotten a bit of a headache so we decided to rest a little bit.

" Geez, this place is a lot funner than I expected" said Kai as he pulled out a chair and sat down still holding his unfinished can of Sprite. I ignored the fact that he said funner, and shut the curtains. I sat across from him and took out my phone and started playing some Plants VS Zombies.

" What the heck bro, that game is so old. It's like six years" whined Kai. I shrugged and continued playing the game. Kai finished his Sprite and crushed it on his head. Then he got up and stretched." I'm gonna get some Cheetos" he said as he started to walk away," I'll be back" he said in an Arnold accent.

He walked into the living room. I heard them all talking over there but my headache got worse, probably since I was playing on my phone. From the living room I heard One Dance playing, the part with gun fire. But I heard something else, and it wasn't from the song. I saw a glass vase right by the basement door shake from the sound. I put my phone down and started to worry.

" Hey guys, I heard something from the basement" I yelled, but there was no response. Then I got up and started to walk over to the living room but the lights suddenly turned off. I heard the girls scream from the living room. I stood still in fear. What happened to Daniel and Kayla? Then I saw some light coming from the living room makings it's way over to me.

" What's happening" asked Nina nervously. I looked around just to see darkness. Soon Kai and Elyssa turned on their phones flashlight. Kai's quickly turned his off because his would only flash rapidly.

" I I I, I don't, I heard something coming from the basement and they haven't come back up" I said now worried. Nina handed the phone to Kai and he started to lead the way. We all followed behind him to the basement door which we all stood in front of terrified.

" What is there to be scared of, it's just Daniel and Kayla" said Elyssa as she nervously looked around with a weak grin on her face. I took that into consideration and snatched the phone out of Kai's hand and opened the basement door. Now I bravely led the way all the way down into the basement.

" What in the world happened here" asked Nina curiously. Everything was either fallen over or scattered around the floor.

" The generator is over there" Elyssa pointed out pointing to the corner of he room. We all made our way over the the generator and Kai quickly turned it on. Finally the lights were back on!

" Well that's done, but where are Daniel and Kayla" I asked looking around, but not finding any clues as to where they are.

" Let's just go back, maybe they came up and we didn't notice" said Kai. We all agreed to go upstairs. I jumped over a fallen shelf but my foot got stuck on a wire. I fell face first onto the ground. Everybody started cracking up, even I did too. I got up and untangled my foot from the wire and brushed the dirt off of my shirt and pants.

" Whatever, let's just go back up" I said kind of embarrassed. Everyone stayed behind laughing at me but I didn't care. I just ignored it and moved on. Just as I was about to go back up the stairs, turned around to still see them laughing, whatever. I grabbed the railing and turned back around to the stairs.

Standing there was a tall dark figure, something glistened in its hand. I stepped back and screamed. It raised its knife at me but I jumped out of he way and ran over to them!

" RUN" I screamed at the top of my lung. I noticed a nearby window by the generator and ran right to it. Behind me I heard everybody scream. I tried to open the window but it was jammed by a huge piece of wood! I turned around and saw him standing right behind me. He raised his knife, but Kai suddenly tackled him! I moved out of the way but Kai's head smashed the glass the pieces.

" We have to get out of here" yelled Nina. I stood there frozen in fear. Help Kai or help keep the others safe. The monster grabbed Kai by the neck and slowly began to turn around. Next to me I saw a broken pipe. I quickly lunged to grab it and whacked the thing in the side of the head, quickly after that I slammed the generator and the power turned off! I heard someone fall onto some cabinets.

I turned around and ran up the stairs.
