In the shadows

Chapter 1

I could smell her from a mile away. That intoxicating vanilla smell was calling my name, drawing me to its source. My wolf was guiding me to her and I knew she was it. The closer I got to her, the stronger the pull was between us. My whole body was shaking as I turned the last corner and saw her. She had long dirty blonde hair that ended in the middle of her back and fell pin straight. She had full kissable lips that were parted as though she was about to speak. Her small button nose was flared out as she caught my sent and then her eyes followed. I was trapped in a sea of bright green, a sea that went on forever and the waves were ruff yet I did not try and escape, for the green was too beautiful. I was snapped out of my trance when someone cleared their throat and shuffled in front of my mate. I had to urge to snarl at the tall girl and pull her black hair so I could see the beautiful girl behind her, but I shook my head and met the girl’s cold stair.

“Can I help you?” she sneered and I once again had another violent thought pop into my head. I slowly backed up and raised my hands, showing no harm.

“Nah I was just checking out the view over here. But then again their ain’t much to see.” My wolf growled at me for insulting his mate but I just ignored him. I didn’t want a mate yet. I was having far too much fun messing around with any girl I could find, and by the looks of my mate, I don’t think she was a do and dump.  The girl in front sent a growl in my direction but I was long gone for it to effect me.

“Dude wrong move to provoke Hayley like that. She could kill you with her bare hands!” I let out a snort as Chase tried to talk some sense into me but I just kept walking. I could hear him run after me and in a second he was next to me walking down the halls.

“Hey who was that girl with her? She was kinda hot.” I said not wanting to blow my cover. “Yeah bro I no, but you ain’t gonna get anything from her. That’s Farah. You know the new girl. The goody to shoes?” I shook my head as I realized just how screwed this all was. Farah was the new girl that all the guys went for because he had a pretty face and a rocking body. The only problem was she was prude and was soon the one the guys teases, but not exactly to her face. If I accepted her, I would lose my reputation, most likely ending up on the bottom of the social statuses. I let out a sigh of frustration and Chase looked at me with concerned eyes but I just shook my head, it’s not like I can tell him about it.

As soon as the door closed behind me I could sense that there was something wrong. I slowly turned around to find Ryan and Chase both sitting on the couch, wearing pissed expressions. “Sup?” I asked as I strolled into the loving room, setting my bag on the ground and plopping down on armchair.

“Sup? Shouldn’t I be asking you that? Or better yet your MATE?” I slunk back in my chair as Ryan towered over me and grabbed my shirt in the process. I froze as soon as I realized what he had just said. Ryan was the next alpha to be and in our pack rejecting you mate with out a good reason was frowned upon. “What the hell are you talking about?” I yelled back but soon regretted it as I was pulled off the chair and thrown across the room. Ryan was in my face before I could think about getting up and I cowered back as he used his alpha stair. “Farah came up to me crying today. I being a polite gentleman asked her what was wrong. She told me that you were her mate and you rejected her.” My breath did a little hiccup but I quickly covered it up with a cough. “I’m sorry bro but I don’t know what you’re talking about. I saw her in the hall she gave me a smile and I returned it and from what I know if I were her mate I would have been on my knees as soon as I saw her.” I let out a sigh of relief as Ryan backed up and I slowly stood up.

“I guess your right.” Ryan mumbled and looked at me with an apologizing glance. I held my hand up to stop him from saying it. I would feel guilty if he said sorry and I had to choke out a no problem, even though he had the right to kick my ass right on the spot. Finally after five minutes Chase finally spoke up, causing me and Ryan to jump.

“You know what this means right?” Ryan looked as confused as I did and after a moment of silence Chase spoke again. “Farah will be banished from the pack.” I stopped breathing all together and slowly my mind began to put two and two together. Farah would be banished from the pack for lying about her mate. My head was slowly beginning to drop and I pulled it up before anyone could notice. “Well I talk to my father, but everyone plan on the meeting tomorrow” Ryan said as he grabbed his stuff and left, Chase hot on his heels. As soon as the door closed I slumped into a pile on the floor. What did I just do?
