After cleaning up at the station, we headed back to the hotel. Some of us were exhausted but I wasn't. I was hyper, probably from all the coffee I had drunk that day. We all headed up to our rooms and said our goodnights in the hallway. I walked in to the room, sitting on the edge of my bed. I laid back, rolled over, grabbed the tv remote and clicked the power button.
"You don't mind if I turn this on right?" I asked Spencer, who was just sitting in the desk chair flipping through the in-room dining menu. "N-No. I don't mind." He said, looking up. I smiled a bit, still looking at him and then looked over to the tv, scrolling through the guide. My stomach growled a few times and I remembered all I had today was coffee.
"Bella, um are you hungry?" He asked, looking a bit concerned. He probably noticed that I hadn't ate all day, and noticed the obvious growling of my stomach. I nodded. "There's a restaurant downstairs, open all night. Do you want to go get something?" He asked. I nodded once more, standing up. "Can I change first?" I asked, my clothes from work feeling grimy and gross. "S-Sure, I'll wait" He said with a smile. I smiled back, my cheeks flushing a bit.
I grabbed a pair of black leggings and a pale blue cap sleeved top and then headed towards the bathroom. I freshened up a bit, brushing my hair and then changing into the clean clothes. Of course this wouldn't be like a date or anything, just two coworkers getting something to eat. Deep down, I wished it was more though.
A few minutes later I walked back into the main part of the room and grabbed my phone and slipped on a pair of grey vans. Spencer stood up, "You ready?" He asked and I nodded in response. He walked over to the door, opening it, and holding it for me. We then went down to the lobby and headed over to the restaurant.
There weren't many people there; a few people at the bar, some people chatting at a booth, and the employees of course. But the emptiness made sense because it was 2 a.m. on a Tuesday night.
After we ordered, everything was quiet for a few moments, both of us probably trying to figure out what to say. Then I tried to speak... at the same time as Spencer did. I laughed softly, Spencer laughing too. "What were you trying to say?" I asked between laughs. "Well, uh. I just wanted to say that you look very nice tonight. I mean you always look nice but- I'm rambling aren't I?" He said awkwardly, his cheeks turning redder and redder with each word. I looked down, smiling to myself. "Th-Thank you." I choked out, looking up, my cheeks as red as a tomato. I also forgot to tell him that I didn't mind his rambling at all. His smile brightened and so did mine. We stayed there for a moment, not speaking, just looking at each other.
Shortly after, our food was brought to us. I got a large caesar salad and he got chicken. "So, Bella, tell me about yourself. I feel like I barely know you." Spencer said, popping a french fry into his mouth.
"Well, what do you want to know?"
"Family, pets, favorite things, weird fetishes- anything and everything. Whatever you first think of."
"Lets see; I have a younger brother- Lucas, he's 16. As for animals, my dad owns a ranch so I have A LOT of animals. My parents got divorced when I was 5 and my dad never remarried, but he never tried to meet anyone either. I also never saw my mom much so it was usually just Dad, Lucas, and I on the ranch."
"Did you miss her a lot?"
"Somewhat, but going to her place was boring to me. It was an apartment with basically nothing around. I would have much rather been at the ranch; riding a horse or jumping in a haystack. Also when I was there, she would work the whole time, she was never there. So when I would visit I would have a sitter and when I got older it was just me there, alone."
Spencer nodded, taking in everything I said, "I'm sorry Bel, I know that can be tough."
Bel, he has a nickname for me, no one ever called me Bel. I smiled a bit at it and I shook my head, "It wasn't that bad, they got along- just not as a couple, more as friends. The divorce wasn't bad or nasty, also I was so young so I didn't really understand what was going on. Anyways, enough about me, tell my about you, Spence."
