Another cold and rainy day, left the masses to bundle up before heading out of their homes that morning and within the Ollivander household, there was no exception. Except the rain had continued throughout the day and only seemed to grow colder as they were preparing to venture out in the evening hours. The wind had been picking up as the hour pressed on and a young boy by the name of Zakari stood in front of his mother as she helped him button the trickiest part of his coat.
His gaze focused on her lips, watching as she muttered something he couldn't here. He could only understand a few of the words by reading her lips, and judging by what he did pick up on, it was safe to say she wasn't in the greatest of moods.
In fact, by the look on her face, Zakari could only determine that she was tired and one couldn't blame her especially if they knew that she had been working a double shift the day before at St Mungo's. However, as she reached for his wool cap that was off to the side, she caught sight of him staring at her, leaving her to realise that he had been watching her the entire time. A faint blush rose to her cheeks, probably wondering just how much he had been able to pick up what she had said.
Once their eyes met though, she smiled in his direction, bringing his own grin to his lips.
"I love you," she mouthed to him silently and he knew her words to be very true.
To return the affection, he brought his hands up crossing them over his own heart before pointing to her. She understood perfectly as her smile grew before she reached her own hand out and touched him on the noise while making a silly face at him. He giggled as it caused his nose to tickle before he watched his mother stand up straight.
Her own hands lifted up, her thumbs directed towards her chest with her fingers sprawled out before she made the motion of pointing her thumbs into herself.
"Ready?" she signed to him and waiting for his response. Right away, he mirrored her gesture with an added nod of his head to confirm that he was ready to go.
On the cool December evening, Zakari Ollivander followed his mother as she opened the front door and allowed him to walk out of their home first. Much to the boy's delight, they were heading to his grandfather's shop, where they would be meeting up with Garrick to head out to a family dinner just as they did every week. And with Christmas just around the corner, Zakari was even more excited as his grandfather had been promising a wonderful surprise for him. Even though it wasn't Christmas yet, there was still a little hope that Zakari would get his gift early.
As they entered out on the busy street outside, wizards and witches were hurrying about all over Diagon Alley as they were either heading home or getting in some last minute shopping. His eyes scanned the crowds of people, watching their mouths or their hands, even if none of them were paying him any mind. Some of them wore joyful expressions, while others looked like they were done with the day, appearing quite frustrated. The stress and bitterness was quite an intimidating look to a five-year-old, leaving him to squeeze his mother's hand even tighter as they continued along.
