If we were to go anywhere...where to first? I mulled over my choices. We could search for a bigger city. But I'm sure the biters are more common in that area. The country sounds safer. But without proper weapons, resources, and food we might as well stay in the city.
Uggghhhhhhhhh. I'm so stumped!
"Matt!" I called. I really needed someone to help me with this. Considering I have two siblings to take care of.
"What? What do you need?"
"Where could we go? We need a safer place to hide in until the military can figure something out. I mean it is an infection! Maybe there is a cure!"
"Whoa chill out, Sam. I'm sure we can figure something out. Come on. Let's pack up and get out of here. Go grab what you need and I'll load everything in my truck."
I sighed. "Alright. Be careful and watch your back out there." I passed Kaden and Angel who were sitting in the living room with suitcases next to them. Angel seemed to be crying and Kaden sat silently with her.
Guilt hit me again but I quickly shoved it away as I ran up the stair. I opened the door to my room to find my bed in a corner and my sisters' bed on the opposite side. Everything was black and white with a few fan posters hung up on the wall.
I found a book bag in my closet and started to pack up clothes, toiletries, and a few personal items.
I hoisted the bag over my shoulder and went back to the kitchen to find Matt waiting for me. "Ready?"
I was about to agree but a quick thought came to me. I dropped my bag and ran to the front door to see my now bloody ax and Rivers' body. I cringed. I'm sorry Rivers.
I picked up my ax and went back to Matt. (That rhymed XD! Sorry.. Back to the story)
"Let's go."
"Oh my God." Angel gasped. We were currently trying to get out of Lemoore but seemed to run into a problem. Traffic.
And not normal traffic either. People were running around screaming as the biters chased after them. "Guys, lock your doors and roll up your windows."
I screamed and pushed myself back into Matt, who was driving the car. A biter slammed itself onto my window biting into the air. It was a woman. She was in a summer dress like she was ready for a picnic.
Her face was torn and shredded, her skin grey. Blood was matted in her hair. And she growled at me. "Matt get us out of here!"
"Working on it!" He shouted back. His jaw clenched as he concentrated on swerving around other cars.
He swerved the truck around another car and stepped on the gas.
I watched the city as it got smaller as we grove away and it seemed as if it looked like a warzone. Helicopters flew everywhere, fire spread across the city, and sirens screamed.
I calmed down as soon as we hit the freeway. "Where should we go?"
"I don't know," Matt answered. "Maybe we should stop by at a gas station or something. We need fuel and a plan."
"Okay. Should we check the radio?"
Without answering, Matt turned the radio on and the emergency siren rang through the truck.
"This is a nation wide emergency. Please stay in your homes and board up your windows and doors. Do not let anyone inside for safety reasons. The spread of infection has already reached thirty-two states and is continuing its destruction.
Stay away from the infected. I repeat, stay away from the infected. They are highly dangerous and will kill on sight.
Researchers are still working on a cure, but so far, to no avail.
The mili-" Screams came from the radio abrubtly and I quickly turned off the radio.
"Oh my God! Oh my God! Sam what are we going to do? We need to do something! We can't survive that long! What if something happens? What if someone gets hurt?" I turned around to see Angel panicking.
"Angel calm down. We are going to find somewhere to stay until the military can fix this. Please stop freaking out."
To be honest, she's starting to scare me. She's right though. I'm not sure we could survive this. We need serious protection and a place to hide. At least we have a bit of food. It should last the four of us a week or so. Damn. Once we are out of that we would have to get more though. Its going to be extremely dangerous.
"Hey, Matt. Look at that!" (Rhymed again lol. I'm on a role XD) "It looks abandoned." I was currently pointing at a small 7/11 gas station and only one car seems to be in the parking lot. "How about there? Do you think we could board it up and we should be safe for a bit?"
Matt nodded. "Let's go check it out. Angel and Kaden with have to stay with our stuff though. I don't want anyone to sneak up on us okay? Angel I want you to honk the horn, got it?"
"Yea I guess."
I grabbed my ax and opened the door. We both tried to get into the convenience store by pushing the door open but it didn't budge. Locked.
I had a couple bobby pins in my hair and pulled them out. "Maybe these will work."
It took me a minute until it finally unlocked and we were able to push through.
The lights were out. I walked along the left side with my hand on the wall until I found a switch. Just as I flicked it on, I felt the front of a gun push against the back of my head.
"I wouldn't move if I were you."

HorrorI stumbled upon another biter or as Kaden likes to call them: Zombie. I laughed. No way in hell am I calling them that. So biter kinda stuck to me. Either way, the biter/zombie was in pretty bad shape. A police officer, so it seems. His name tag on...
