"Hey can I come to yours this afternoon?" I ask Daria as we leave our last lesson.
"Sorry, but no. I'm meeting with Carter." She looks at me apologetically.
"It's cool, I'll just go home." And I smile so she doesn't feel bad. When I leave the school gates, my bestfriend from another school is waiting for me. "Silas, I didn't know you were coming here?" He pulls me into a hug and we saunter down the street. It's funny that his name is Silas- he really is nothing like Silas Ravenwood. Silas stops. "Happy birthday for yesterday," and he hands me a green box. "Don't open it till you get home. I'm taking you for dinner."
I smile. Then Silas notices my eyes. He gives me that look that says 'don't explain cause I know you can't' then we continue walking. It's nice that someone won't pester me constantly about my eyes. We go to the bus stop.
Tyler smiles at me, then Silas tenses. I know it's because he hates it when people look at me with that sorry look in their eyes.Silas takes me to McDonalds. Honestly, I was expecting something nicer.
"Rae, how's Nathaniel?" He asks.
"Oh, just the usual," I respond.
"Usual?"
"You know, just me staring at him, him not knowing who I am, me wanting him, and me dying for him."
Silas rubs his eyes underneath his glasses. "I'm pretty sure you're not dying for him." He throws his gherkins into my box, then clears his throat.
"Okay, Rae. I can't just keep pretending I don't care anymore." Silas says.
"Care about what?" I ask.
"Rae, I can see your eyes, I'm not dumb. What the hell is going on?"
"I don't know."
"I know you don't know."
"Then why are you asking?"
"Because I'm worried, Rae."
Silas sighs and takes my hand.
"Look, I know that you're probably confused as well, but we can get through this together."
I roll my eyes. "You can't help me through this because you have no idea about my life."
"I know loads- you tell me everythi-"
"No. Just stop."
I stand up.
"Where are you going?" Silas asks, taking hold of my hand.
"Leaving. I'll pay you back."
I walk out of McDonalds and pull my hood over my head. I cry, and half expect Silas to cone after me.
Silas doesn't go after anyone.
Silas doesn't come after me.
