Patrick had been impatient for the weekend to come and now that it was here he couldn't seem to stop pacing. Pitch sighed in exasperation as he watched the boy pace from his shady spot under a nearby tree. Alexa was off with Kaleth "tidying" the lair. Pitch was glad to be out here instead of that dank and dark hole. The people from the guild were supposed to be coming at some point today and Patrick was excited and hopeful. He wanted answers to how he could fix his problem. The leader of the guild, Logan, had promised to ask some of the more experienced members and their families for them.
Pitch yawned and let out a little bit of roar. At least he could stay in cat form. He wouldn't have to talk to them but could listen to what they wee telling everyone. He felt a little safer as a cat anyway. He thought Kaleth was overreacting a bit with the sheer hatred he seemed to harbor for the guy that lead the guild. His familiar, the snake-like cat, seemed harmless but Pitch would be keeping a close eye. It wouldn't take much to snap that little creature's neck if he needed to. Kaleth was always so intense in everything he did. He could still protect Alexa without being a total asshole. Pitch heard a car pull into the driveway long before Patrick did. Patrick all but sprinted to the shed and knocked on the panel hiding the entrance to the lair. Alexa quickly came up, looking a little pale but otherwise okay. Two boys climbed out of the SUV. Logan was one and the other one of the brunettes named Nik. Alexa and Patrick walked over to greet them as Pitch watched closely. The other boy, Nik didn't seem to be any threat either. After they greeted each other Logan gestured to Nik and told Alexa and Patrick that he'd gotten a few answers from his grandmother that they would explain later.
They made their way over to the shed and Pitch slowly climbed to his feet. He hated going into the lair but if Alexa and Patrick were down there with two strangers he would follow to make sure they were safe. Kaleth had proved that sometimes he wasn't exactly helpful. He reached them as they were headed down the steps, and followed them down.
Alexa was first to reach the bottom and step into the lair, closely followed by Patrick. Logan was next then Nic, with Pitch being last. Kaleth was stood by the shelf, tucking some of the more disturbing oddities to the back. Both the guys from the Guild had stopped in their tracks and we're looking around the room with a mixture of curiosity and horror.
Pitch was surprised to see Kaleth had not donned his wings and tail. He supposed Alexa must have ordered him to be civil. He had moved to Alexa's side and was standing silently.
Pitch could see his shoulders were tense as the two guild members took in the lair.
Alexa left them for several minutes before clearing her throat to get their attention. Nice jumped and they both turned to look at her.
"This was where Alistair did a lot of his magic. He did a lot of aweful things in here." she said. Pitch couldn't see her face but knew she was thinking about the dreams where she had seen what Alistair had done. Logan nodded seriously and looked around again.
"You said that you hid his body?" he asked. Alexa nodded and stepped across the room to the locked cell where Kaleth had deposited Alistair's corpse. She wasn't sure if the lack of decomposition was a relief or extremely unnerving. Logan followed her over and handed down at the withered corpse. His eyes grew wide for a minute before stepping back with a nod. Obviously the corpse was sufficient evidence of Alistair's death. Nik was not as curious, still standing near the door and looking ready to bolt up the stairs. Pitch couldn't blame him. Logan walked back past the shelf, trying not to look at the items on display.
"We can go back outside. I know this place isn't particularly inviting. It is not a place that I will ever be comfortable." she said. Logan and Nik obviously couldn't agree more and hurried back up the stairs.
Once outside they seemed to relax a little and asked Patrick to display some of his magic, or lack thereof. Patrick seemed embarrassed as he tried the shield spell. For some reason that was one of the few spells he was able to generate, even if it was very feeble. Alexa was a little impress as the shield e created was a little thicker than usual. Logan furrowed his brow as he walked around inspecting the shield. He seemed to be studying it and the surrounding air.
"You can feel magic escaping. It's concentrated in the wall but it's like a breeze is blowing through it and more magic is blowing away than staying with your shield." he said. Nic walked up to examine Patrick's shield too. As Alexa watched it actually seemed to be growing thicker. Just given time. If he even needed a shield he wouldn't have time on his side though. Nice nodded.
"I talked to my grandmother the other night and she told me about losing a familiar doing this to some people. If the familiar was strong your used to having your manager split and some of it going to the familiar. Now it's not needed but it's still pumping out trying to find your familiar. I bet when the cat walks even walks by you he gets a surge and if you were attacked by a familiar as he got close he would get a burst of magic."
