Kaleth was glad when the strangers left so he could hear both Patrick and Alexa speak freely about what was going on with each of them. Patrick held up the little fox for Alexa to look at more closely and he had the biggest grin plastered on his face. Kaleth was curious why the boy was so proud when his new familiar was obviously much smaller and weaker than Ramona had been or Pitch and himself. Alexa went to hold it but it squirmed away from her nervously. Kaleth wondered if she was aware of what had happened to Patrick's last familiar. Alexa didn't seem terribly offended. Pitch stood up in his human form.

"She's so dainty. I wonder what powers she'll have." He said, leaning in to look more closely. She jumped forward and nipped at his outstretched hand. Pitch smiled a little and backed away.

"She's feisty," Kaleth said with a bit of a grin. He remembered when Pitch was first summoned but under Alistair Pitch had been all but abandoned. He could see this familiar wasn't going to be far from Patrick's side for any length of time. Patrick moved towards his bedroom.

"I'm going to see if I can find anything more than her obituary and death record. Maybe things about her." He said before vanishing out the door and up the stairs. They had yet to check and see if this had helped balance out his magic but Alexa just shrugged and headed upstairs too. It was obviously something that could wait until morning.

Kaleth followed Alexa up to her room, he eyed the daybed that he typically used. Alexa had been a bit more wary of him since Alistair's death. He couldn't blame her but it stung. He doubted the cat or Patrick even noticed. The only one who would notice would be him. She hadn't touched him since Alistair had died and she begged him to stay with her. He didn't understand it but it meant that he wouldn't get to sleep on her bed. He watched the cat climb up to cuddle with her. He supposed the cat hadn't had things great either. He'd been left in charge of guarding the brother. Alexa still absentmindedly rubbed behind his ears when he was in cat form though. She let him rub up against her even if she seemed to dislike when he did it in his human form. Kaleth sighed and stretched out on the bed, shutting his eyes and trying to get to sleep. It was hard when he was racking his brain for a way to fix things and make something up to her that he would never have done on purpose.

Alexa woke to a thundering crash. She jumped out of bed and was on her feet in seconds. Pitch and Kaleth were nowhere to be seen. They must be fighting off this attack. She ran through the hall, stopping at Patrick's room but the door was open and he wasn't inside. She took the stairs two at a time and burst through the front door. The crash had come from the backyard so she pelted around the house wondering who was attacking. Had Alistair found a way back to the living, had the ghosts from the factory followed them home, had an old friend of Alistair's surfaced to reap revenge, or were the guild turning on them. Se skidded to a halt as she watched a ball of flame explode across the yard. Her eyes widened as she hunted for the culprit to no avail.

Instead, she found just Patrick and Kaleth out in the open. She couldn't see the fox but Pitch was hiding in the shadow of a tree. Patrick caught sight of her and burst into a massive grin.

"Come see, come see!" He shouted running over and grabbing her arm. He dragged her back into the yard and parked her near Pitch and the tree. Patrick ran up to Kaleth who was smiling as he watched them.

"Throw your biggest blast at me!" He shouted to Kaleth before bellowing the same shield spell Alexa used with such force she flinched. She felt a pulse as Patrick's magic burst forth into a shield thicker than any she'd ever summoned. Kaleth jumped into the air into dragon form and completely surrounded the shield in a massive blast of flame. Alexa jumped forward to stop him but Pitch jumped in front of her. The barrage lasted for almost a minute and when Kaleth stopped he landed lightly beside Alexa in his human form. He had a knowing grin on his face as Alexa waited for the flames to subside. There was a crash as Patrick released his shield spell and he came running across the blackened grass.
