"Mamma,it really hurts! STOP! " I screamed out, my little voice whining. She looked down at me her eyes soft and gentle.
"Shhhhhh. It will only take a little longer," she said as she slowly dabbed the cotton pad down my arm leaving a trail of dried blood. The pain was excruciating and I didn't know if my liitle body could take it any more.
"And......done!" she said satisfied. "Now, what's been the lesson for today?"
"Ummm....... to not come for combat classes so that I don't hurt my arm again?
My mum looked me amused and let out a soft chuckle.
"Nice try, but no. The lesson is to always be careful when using knives or daggers and listen to my instructions instead of trying to be a hero and doing your own thing."
I let out a soft sigh as I silently nodded my head.
"Now give mummy a hug. I've got a few more archery classes to teach so I'll only see you tomorrow morning."
Enthusiastically I wrapped my tiny arms around her as far as I could reach, taking in the scent of her perfume and shoving my face in her glossy black hair.
"Mummy?" I mumbled.
"Yes?"
"Why...why do we have to learn how to fight? It's all we ever do!
She pulled me away from her and looked at me dazedly.
"Because you have to learn how to protect yourself when you're in danger."
"That's not what daddy says." I retorted.
"What does he say then?"
"He says that we should fight to show our power.
She looked away lost in thought as silence, her blue eyes glazed.Only after a few minutes did she reply.
"Your father sees things differently. He says what he believes in.... and that's what he believes. Most Troopers believe him as well, however I can't say I do. But that's how the world works. Majority rules. We can't govern a land where people have different beliefs because we won't be able to agree on the same things, now would we?So we have to be taught to believe in the same things."
I nodded my head trying to register what she had said into my little head.
"What do you believe mama?"
She hesitated a few times until she finally answered.
"I believe that we shouldn't fight.....at all."
Gracefully she got up, her black locks bouncing in the air as she adjusted her red uniform. Giving me a peck on the cheek she walked out of the room stealthily yet a prescence of dormanance radiating out of her. Like a cheetah. Like a fighter.
