"Is this all really necessary?" Sasha asked the same time her sister said,
"You guys are making a big mistake."
"You don't look that big," said the guy with dark hair, the one taller than the older guy and well more intimidating, the older guy always kept a smile on his face and that was creeping Sasha out.
"Sorry for the lack of finesse, Agent Ward here has had a little history with your little group- The Rising Tide," she raised her eyebrows and popped the gum in her mouth, her hands itching to be released from the slightly loosened cuff that were wrapped around her wrists. These idiots were stupid enough to cuff her arms from the front instead of the back.
"I don't know what you'r- " Skye began to say to avoid the truth but Sasha rolled her eyes and cut her off.
"Oh cut it Skye, they obviously know about The Rising Tide- they're S.H.I.E.L.D for god's sake! How do you think they found us?" Skye gave her a small glare before diverting her attention back to the two men who were watching the both of them closely, analyzing them.
"What are your names?" Agent Ward asked, leaning forward slightly, his stare hardened as if intimidating them but she was used to it. It was not the first time she had an authority type figure stare down at her; she used to and well, still is getting in trouble with the police about some of her magic tricks that she present to crowds of people in multiple cities in the world.
"Skye," my sister said, hesitation evident in her voice while Sasha spoke loud and clear, showing them that she was not afraid of them or the government.
"Sasha."
"What are your real names?" Ward asked then.
"That can wait. It's another name we need- a certain hero," the older guy said as he sat down in a chair in front of them.
"What makes you think we know that?" Skye asked. Sasha began to feel bored with the conversation already so she opted to making bigger bubbles out of her gum and popping them quite loudly, making sure to smirk whenever Ward would look her way, annoyance clearly etched into his sharp features.
"Well, you made a little mistake. The phone you filmed the hooded hero with had the same cryptographic signature as a few of The Rising Tide posts," the older man said as he places a file onto the table. Sasha tried to awkwardly reach for it with her handcuffed hands but was jerked away by Ward, receiving only a glare in return.
"Wow. Yeah. Was that a mistake or are we know sitting in the center of your secret headquarters? What is this? A plane? We got inside, and by now you discovered that you can't beat the encryption on her equipment, so you got nothing," she concluded as she motioned for Skye with her head.
"We have a fairly strong coincidence- you being on the crime scene before it went up in flames but you on the other hand, you were somewhere else doing some magic act," he said incredulously, making her scoff. So what if I was doing a magic act while my sister filmed a crime scene before it was destroyed? Everybody has hobbies, Sasha grumbled mentally, rolling her eyes.
"Want to tell me what my team is going to find there?" the man finished.
"Did you blow it up to draw him out?" Ward asked, making both Sasha and Skye scoff at the ridiculous thought. Who in their right minds would blow a lab and endanger many lives just so a secret hero could have a moment in the spotlight? Oh yeah, S.H.I.E.L.D would definitely be willing just as long as they are able to cover it up. They covered up Thor's hammer in New Mexico, and the whole tesseract- alien energy thing just days after New York.
"Did you?" Skye finally asked, making her lose her train of thought.
"That's not our style," retorted the older man and wow, Sasha needed to get a name ASAP because she would end up calling him grandpa if she didn't get a name. His retort made her snort and sit up straight in her seat, trying to get comfortable. She still didn't get why she was still handcuffed when her sister could move her arms freely. That was totally not fair.
"Well we were just kidnapped by your style. S.H.I.E.L.D covered up New Mexico, Project Pegasus, of course they would cover up Centipede," Skye voiced Sasha's previous thoughts. Gosh, it never ceases to not only amazes, but amuses her to see how much Skye and her were alike. I mean we could be twins for all I know, but that's less likely seeing as she's a couple of years older than me, I'm still a minor, 17 years old, sucks really. Sasha could not believe that was she was complaining in her own mind just to not feel absolutely bored.
Ward then walks up to grandpa- see she didn't get a name and now she'll have to start calling him grandpa- and makes a face as if to ask what Centipede was silently, which made her eyebrows rise so far up, they almost disappeared into her hairline. They don't know what Centipede was?
"Holly no way. You don't know what that is. Billions of dollars of equipment at your disposal and I beat you with a computer I won in a bet?" Skye asked, just as surprised as she was.
"You need to think about your friend. We're not the only ones interested in people with powers. We'd like to contain him, yeah. The next guy will want to exploit him, and the guys after that will want to dissect him," grandpa said as Ward went to the side of the table.
"What is centipede?" Ward asked with a hard voice.
"Centipede- it was a chatter on the web and then gone. I traced the access-point mac address to that building," my sister said, freely walking across the room while Sasha sulked into her chair, staring at her tightly cuffed hands. She would get free of them without somebody taking them off for her. She'll show them a trick, specifically, she'll show Ward a trick and give him the first taste of her magic.
"What were you after?" he continued to ask.
"The truth, what were you after?" Skye asks after answering.
"World peace," he simple answered before continuing, "you pseudo-anarchist hacker types love to stir things up. But you're never around for the fallout. People keep secrets for a reason Skye," he spat out her sister's name like it was poison. Sasha did not like him.
"Well, just because you're reasonable and... Firm," Skye says as he pokes Ward in the chest. Nice Skye, very smooth.
"... Doesn't mean that you're not an evil, faceless government tool bag," she finished.
"Just give us your guy's name," Ward sighs, exasperated. Well so was Sasha, her wrists were getting sore and her arms were aching.
"He's not our guy!" Sasha yelled, groaning in annoyance as she saw very light bruises begin to form onto the skin of her wrists. She hated how she bruise easily. It's so annoying and leaves her wearing long sleeves for days before she could show her arms again. She always hated wearing foundation and any kind of creamy powder on her skin.
"You understand he's in danger," old guy said.
"Then let me go," Sasha let out a fake cough, and sent a pointed look.
"Then let us go. Let us talk to him. Us, not the T-1000 over here," Skye corrected.
"You want to be alone with him. Of course. She's a groupie," Ward says to oldie, basically ignoring Sasha's entire existence. Rude much?
"All this hacking into S.H.I.E.L.D, tracking powers. She might as well me one of those sweaty cosplay girls crowding around Stark Tower," he finishes his complaint to oldie.
"It was one time and hello, I'm right here, you might as well include me into this conversation- no sorry, interrogation," Sasha said to Ward, letting he sarcastic and cocky side show.
Sasha then started tapping her finger nails onto the metal table as she saw the old guy lead Ward outside to talk about some majorly important subject. Humming a random song from her mind, she returned the reassuring smile her sister sent her, silently telling Sasha that everything was going to be okay before popping the gum in her mouth once more, making sure that it was extra loud.
