Sunshine pushed its way through the blinds of Fay's windows and her eyelids fluttered briefly. She hadn't slept very much at all the last night, but it didn't matter to her. She woke up gradually from her slumber and rubbed her eyes, then snatched her iPhone off of her wooden side table. She opened up the messages app and clicked on her group chat with her best friends, from her old school of course. The only people she could lean on, and they were miles and miles away.

"I love you guys," she typed out and also whispered to herself.

Fay did not even realize she was crying until a fat crystal tear splashed on her cell phone screen. She wiped her eyes and sauntered over to her closet, where she selected an outfit of hot pink shorts and a plain black tee shirt.

Before her legs walked her out the door, she caught sight of herself in a mirror. Was that even her though? The girl blinking back at Fay in the reflective glass had bags under her eyes, messy hair, and glassy pupils that were full of an emotionless stare. Fay shook her head and walked out of the door of her house, not looking back, before she changed her mind.

She paced throughout the town; people swarmed everywhere, like restless insects. Eventually, she reached her cherished destination. The elevator took her up to the rooftop and she stepped out into the heavy winds. Looking down, everything looked so small. Fay figured she would enjoy this view when she was gone and floating carelessly throughout the lands. She found peace thinking about how she would meet God and finally be home. Home. This place was not home. It never would be.

Fay took in her last deep breath, and closed her eyes to enjoy the wind for one last moment. Then, she jumped.

Falling.

Falling.

Falling.

Fay lost her stomach and crashed through the air like a meteor. She felt a twinge of fear and regret as she sped towards the ground but had no time to think of it. Instead, she whispered her last words for the birds and the clouds to hear.

"I'm going home."
