"What the hell is that?" I asked the lab coated lady holding a srynge.
She glared at me and walked over to the examining table I was sitting propped up on. I felt a tight knot forming in my gut. I've never been fond of needles. Much less any needle to be in fact.
However this scientist hated me in particular. I guess she used to like me, like a cute little crush when I firt came here. She would always help around and try to be near me as much as I can. Creepy right? Anyways after she had been flirting with me for like half a year Christine finally convinced herself to introduce herself. If you're wondering why it took me so long to get her settled she was suffering from PTSD and I didn't want to rush her. I let her take her time to mentally heal.
Hah anyways once I introduced Christine, that scientist became a total bitch. Throwing attitude and harrassing Christine saying that she doesn't disearve me. I was pissed at her and I still am since she continues to make remarks about Christine.
"It's poison, so you will die for killing me." She muttered.
I glanced over my shoulder and gave her a confused look.
"The fuck? Don't you think I've been poisened dozens of times?" I argued back.
"Not enough obviously." She said with a sigh.
"Ok, you shut the fuck up. You have no right to say that. You never knew the hell I was through." I snapped.
I marched out of the examination room and I was bumped into Mark on the way which I humbly ignored.
"Ash, where are you going?" He warned.
I frowned. I stormed past him but I felt his hand on my shoulder.
"I can't deal with her." I growled between my teeth.
I moved on, and went onto the roof where I took off and glided down to the Recital hall building where Christine should be in the middle of lessons. She didn't mind me intruding classes though. Because I sat in the corner and waited for her to finish so we could finally go to dinner since it was the camps last enrichment class.
Christine's class was in the Chior room where the chairs were on risors row by row. Kinda like stairs. The room walls were cercular and each individual wall had a different colour which really buged me.
I pushed open the door to the chior room and quietly sat down in the office chair which has a desk tucked in the corner.********************
Once Chistine finnished talking about how chords can help lead in jazz improvising the class was dismissed for dinner.
Christine came over to the deck where I scooted out from behind. She gave a smirk and I smiled shy.
"You came here earlyier then usual. Wanna tell me why?" She purred.
"I can't deal with that one scientist she just pisses me off. She said something, I just left." I said with a shrug.
Christine rolled her eyes. I know how much she hates Mrs. Bitch. And I can tell it really does bother her everytime I'm around her, by force. I know she gets easily jealous and especially when Chritine's around her in perticular.
We left the building, and I stoped because I recognized a familier suit.
"We need to go." I whisper shouted.
Christine hitched on, seeing the man.
We turned away and went behind the library where we sprinted to our dorms and were extremely lucky that the angent didn't notice us.
We ran up the stairs to our dormed, struggled to unlock the door and we collapsed when we got to our room, locked the windows. We locked everything.
"How did they find us?" She said out of breath.
"I don't know, call Markus get someone to take care of him or I will. I just don't want to though, it will get messy." I growled.
I shut the blinds and peeked through to check if we was coming. Sure enough I watched him enter the building.
"Hurry, Chris!" I yelled.
"I'm trying!" She whispered.
She held the phone up to her ear and gave me a look that it was ringing.
I gulped as I locked our dorm room as well as the Pod door.
I looked at Christine and saw that she was getting stressed.
"Mark! Mark! They're here!" She called into the phone.
I watched her expression change from confussed and concerned to pissed.
"YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD US THAT BEFORE!" She yelled and hung up the phone.
I gulped, "Well?"
"That guys our 'body guard'." She said making air quotes.
I breathed a sigh of releif, "Well then."
I ran my fingers through my hair and gave a small laugh, "That was kinda funny. I bet the guy though we were stupid running."
Christine laughed at the thought.
We left the dorms on our way to the cafiteria when the "bodyguard" pulled out a gun and fired some shots in the air.
I ducked down and gave him a confused look.
"You are too stupid." He snarled.
I gulped. This was the real deal. Maybe Mark was forced to say that...
I stood up tall and pushed Christine behind my back.
"Really? You're the stupid one, letting me kill you." I muttered.
The man tilted his head back and laughed, "You need to come back. I'll give you the easy way. You agree to come with me... or I kill you."
I frowned.
"What's it gonna be bird boy?" He taunted.
Ok that really pissed me off.
"Hell no." I growled.
"Suite yourself." He said pulling out a gun.
"Christine, go now!" I yelled.
I jumped in front her, taking a bullet that was meant for her while she ran into the nearest building.
I quickly sat up as he ran to me, pushing myself up with my arms and kicking him in the knees. There was a loud crack as he yelled in pain.
I jumped up snapping open my wings to get a little air and kick him on the side of the fave where I heard his neck snap.
I landed softly. I was surprised he went imminently down and died. Usually these fast are worse and longer.
But this one was extremely easy and short. We're they planning something? I guess not because it all went quiet.
The man's body disapeared into ashes, that's what happens when they all die so police can't track bodies.
I thought about the direction Christine ran in and thought she must have gone to the Library.
I spun around and ran twords the library where I saw her run from the doors and wrap me in her arms.
"That was too close." She said.
"Your not hurt are you?" I asked.
"No." She said muffled.
"What about you?" She asked.
"Just one bullet. It doesn't hurt to bad." I muttered.
She released and pulled me along to the science ward.
I wrapped my arms around her, releasing my wings and holding her tight as I thrusted myself into the air and landed softly onto the roof where my wings folded against my back again.
I pushed open the doors and bolted downstairs to the abandoned story where the lab was and even then I bursted the door open. The lab was completely destroyed and trashed. Every cabnet opened, papers everywhere and chairs tossed.
I heard a soft groan as Mark came over with a bleeding cut on his forehead.
"Ash, Ash. Oh thank god you're alright." Mark muttered.
He winced as he went up to touch the cut to see how much he's bleeding.
"Did he... did he do all this?" I stuttered.
"Yes. He didn't find the files though. At least not the real ones." He said and laughed.
So right now the hostpital hell place I came from is after all the information the good scientists had discovered about me and recorded the data in my file. Since we knew they were after it I made a fake file and all that's in it is a John Cena picture. I know right I'm hilarious.
"Ash. Listen this is very vital to your survival," He said sitting down, "There is an organization I am part of, I cannot share the name but it's main purpose is to save people like you. Right now you're the only living subject we have. In safety reasons we had a cabin built in the mountains of Colorado if something were to happen. You and Christine are not safe here now that they know where you are. I have a map, showing you the coordinates and address of the safe house. Burn it once you get there."
I dropped my jaw in awe, "Are you serious."
Mark glared at me as he handed Christine a folded peace of paper.
"Mark-." Christine said.
"The cabin is huge like what a celebrity would be in, we wanted you to have enough room as possible. Airplanes sent from our organization will deliver packages of essential needs. Now this is extremely important. All we ask is daily you will log into a computer we have set up. Course you can use it in any way you can but again, daily you must send us information on changes on Ash. I'm looking at you Christine. Please list any changes you may notice, mental, emotional, physical. Of course there is an app that runs to our delivery where you can select foods and items you wish to be delivered." Mark interuppted.
He pointed to the door, "Now go while we take care of this... mess. A car is parked out front in front of your dorms. Pack then go. Ash, no flying to the cabin."
I felt my breathing hitch. A sick feeling fluttering in my stomach. Christine grabbed my hand and led me out of the building.************************
We had everything stuffed in grocery bags and our luggage and tossed it in the back of our new Subaru Outback that... Is ours now...
After shutting the backdoor and holding the keys in my hand, I looked up and squinted. I don't think I'll ever be back here. It sucks that we're leaving. Once Tucker heard he had a big blow out tears and all. That was hard to sit through. I mean we made bonds with the staff and these kids that come and go. And we're leaving this all behind.
"You ready?" Christine asked.
I shrugged, "Sure."
Truth was, I've never been ready for anything.
