KIRK
Kirk watched in horror as his entire crew collapsed onto the floor, unconscious. The vapor crawled toward each one of them, none of them detecting the gaseous venom before them. All Kirk could do was watch, unable to help or scream or do anything. He struggled against the ropes that bounded him to the floor. The screen in front of him showed each one of them falling to the floor, unconsious. None of them even knew where he was, let alone who had him.
Once every last member of his crew was on the ground, the screen in front of Kirk turned black. "It's an aweful feeling, isn't it?" asked the voice in the shadows behind the screen. "Knowing you could have helped them, but instead being elsewhere. Now we share the same grief. You're punishment will not end here, however." The voice went quiet and Kirk heard a door open and close. He was alone again.
His mission had been to seek out the location of the ship's engineer, Mr. Scott. He had been sent on a planet to repair an escape pod that had crashlanded after an attack. The ship lost his signal and Kirk was sent to recover Scott. But he had failed. That's the only thing that Kirk had ever felt like, the only thing that he didn't want to be. A failure.
SPOCK
After Scott went missing, Kirk volunteered to retrieve him. However, Spock wanted to join him. Kirk advised against it and had denied his company. And now Kirk's signal was lost, just as Scott's had been. Spock felt a sense of dread inside of him, the same dread that he felt when he feared he was going to die in that volcano already two years ago. He felt like he was the one about to die, and Kirk was alright. Spock knew he shouldn't follow Kirk and that he was probably killed, but he had a sense of curiosity, the kind where you just have to know. So he went onto the planet in Kirk's steps, this time with back-up: Uhura.
