The days in the hospital passed relatively quickly and soon Lys was from the ICU to a normal hospital bed, from the hospital bed to rehabilitation, then home with a cast and she was doing well. The cast was off with the spring and things were falling into a natural, well new natural for them, rhythm once more.
Coming home from work Xan was greeted to a delightful smell, “Someone was in the kitchen...” he chuckled.
“It wasn't me and I swear this is driving me insane!” Margo's voice came. He walked in to see the slightly chubby woman looking to him, “You parent's never allowed this!”
“She's just using the kitchen” Xan dismissed it seeing his sister with an apron tied around her waste a smile on her face.
“Now Alexander, I have been calling you for almost an hour... having to keep dinner warm you just go sit down I won't have this!” she had the place set for four, though at best if Margo stayed they only needed places for three she insisted on setting four.
“Have you seen her this responsive to me before?” he asked Margo. “I'm here and I'm sorry work took long today... you should call me on the phone...” he said trying to remind her, though she never used it. “I called Margo, didn't she tell you I was going to be late?”
She looked to him and moved over taking his jacket, “Hands, mister” she pointed to the sink, “now next time I call you, I expect you to respond much faster...” she paused then looked over, “leave my brother alone... it's not his fault” she scowled at a place setting then hung up the jacket.
Margo looked to him, “I told her, Xan, but she has been quite animated today, she is putting wood in the oven... wood! We're going to have a fire!”
Xan shook his head washing his hands, “You always turn it off and you know she doesn't realize how to set it. We keep the matches from her and you just turn on the burners and she is fine”
Margo looked to him, “I've aged 20 years since she came to live with you...” she sighed shaking her head.
“Why not take home some dinner for you and John, you know it's delicious...” Xander offered.
Margo looked to Lysandra, “She always makes so much food... like she's cooking for a small army” she went over and hugged the young woman from behind. “She has a good heart, always singing and trying to teach” she kissed the girl's cheek, “I love you and your sister like my own children...”
“That's why you come back to help, I know. Most people do not fight to not take raises” he chuckled.
“I do not like to feel like I am stealing from you two, but enough about that we have to go over tomorrow again! She has an appointment. Are you sure you can take her?”
He looked over, “I took off, I will take her and spend the day with my sister... get some lunch or something” he smiled, “You are going to go see your grandchildren aren't you?”
She smiled softly, “I am”
“Then it's settled. You have a lovely day off, I spend a day with my sister and everyone is happy.. now let's pack some food for you to take home to enjoy with John”
She frowned at that, “Xan... are you sure about this?” she looked to him as he moved starting to package some of the food. There was much more than the two of them could eat and it smelled divine. No one understood how she knew to cook like that, but she didn't argue. Margo always questioned it more than Xan did, but she worried about things like that.
“I am positive, this will give us a chance to sleep in and just have a nice leasurely day” Xan said sure of himself. “Besides, I think someone deserves a treat going to the fast food place where they have car hops and we can eat in the car.”
Margo laughed, “Is the treat for your sister or for you, Xan?”
He gave a lopsided grin, “Both”
She walked over and kissed his cheek, “One day you should consider dating... you could find a very nice young lady.”
He shook his head, “No time for that... work and family... it's alright...” he waved it off going to get her jacket.
“Why aren't you coming to dinner, Xan,it's going to get cold and we waited so long...” she sighed. “They already started to eat without you... if you weren't my brother...”
Xan laughed now, “I'm coming, I'm coming” he called to her. “You have a nice day off”
Margo just shook her head and left the room to gather her belongings and head home. The two siblings went and sat at the table. Dinner was eatten and the dishes were cleaned. Every now and then she was muttering about leave him be, he can do it by his sister, but Xan didn't know who exactly she was talking to. He didn't mind. Before long she was showered and heading to her room and he did the same. The morning brought the doctor's appointment and a long day for both of them.
