Chapter Ninetten- Rat Shack

Ryan kept throwing glances over his shoulder, looking back at his ruined car as we walked. The streets were quiet and dark. I was nervous to be walking in a unknown place in the dark. What if the people that had been following us somehow lived?

I shook the thoughts away and walked a little closer to Ryan, watching my feet hit the concrete. We walked for what seemed like an hour before Ryan came to a stop. I looked up, my glaze going to where Ryan starred. A hand made hotel sign was sticking up from the dirt on the lawn.

"Seriously?" I looked at him.

He shrugged, "Better then having no where."

"This isn't a hotel!" I hissed.

An it wasn't, it was a small house made out of wood. It honestly looked like something out of a scary movie.

"It's a rat shack." I continued on, "They probably have mice everywhere."

"This is the best we got," Ryan snapped. "Unless you'd like to sleep out here or walk back by yourself to the car an sleep, then I would stop complaining."

My eyes narrowed at him, "Why can't you use your credit card to get a cab to a nicer hotel?"

He laughed mockingly, "Because they probably know my name, address, and my credit card information by now. It wouldn't be safe, they are probably watching for an active use of my personal bank account and all my finances."

I exhaled a frustrated groan, "Fine."

Ryan opened the gate leading to the broken stone walkway. The gate squealed angrily as we entered. I jumped at the sound, my body becoming alarmed. Ryan tried to muffle his laugh with faking a cough but it wasn't that believable. I sent him a glare and kept walking beside him. We stopped right in front of the steps. I looked at them speculating if they were safe.

"You can stop starring at the steps like there a black whole," Ryan pointed at them. "I'm sure there fine."

I rolled my eyes, "Go on then."

He straightened his shirt, following with a uncertain facial expression.

"What's the matter?" I smirked, mocking him.

He scoffed, placing a cautious foot on the step. He smirked and stood with both feet on it. I rolled my eyes once again. He went to the next step, putting both feet on the angry looking wood. A crack followed when his weight was all on the step.

Then a snap, and Ryan's legs went through the broken wood. I died in laughter at his surprised facial expression. His hands shot out to grip the wood on either side of his body.

"You should have seen your face." I giggled, lending him a hand.

He have me glare, when he was back on his feet. "Haha funny."

The front door opened with a bang. I jumped startled and moved whined Ryan's protective stance.

"Who's there?" A old woman walked through the dark opening door.

"Is this a hotel?" Ryan asked, looking for any sign of a threat she might be.

"Come in." She eyed us before going to the broken wood. "Did you break my steps?"

I swallowed, this old woman gave me the chills. With her grey hair blowing around her like fog, and her milky blue eyes starring at me like I was a animal getting cut open.
