"Look lively recruits! You're getting your Pokémon today!" the man shouted. "You will start training as a Team Crystal member next week so get to know your partner and battle each other hard!"
He threw me in my poké-ball and assumed he did the same to the others. I felt a thump that whoever was on the other end of the throw caught me. "Have fun" he said, then a slam indicated he had left.
I look up through the top of the poké-ball and saw a young face framed by silvery-blond hair. It seemed I had been given to a girl, I could only assume she was the one they said was being defiant.
"An Eevee! The idiot gave me an Eevee!" she sounded shocked, exited and for some reason a little relived. The girl let me out of my poké-ball for the first time since I was caught, I shook myself and looked up at my new trainer. "Hello," she said, "you know, you're a little small." I glared up at her and growled, "hey it's alright, being small isn't a bad thing" she said, "I'm small aren't I?"
I sat down and looked at her than at the others in the room, she did seem to be smaller than they were. "What should I call you?" she asked. I cocked my head to one side in question, "what?" she said "do you expect me to call you Eevee forever?"
"Yes," I said to her, all she heard was a yap or 'eevee' but she got the point.
"You actually do! Is that really your name?"
My ears dropped, humans could be so ignorant sometimes, "yes!" I repeated.
"I'll take that as a yes," said.
"Good idea," I replied. My logic was that if I talked to her enough she might pick something up, although I doubted it.
"Hey Savannah!" one of the boys called, "guess who's going to beat that puny pokémon of yours into the ground! GO STORM!" A pikachu burst out of the poké-ball and stood before his trainer.
"It's definitely not going to be you Dylan," she resorted, "come on Eevee." I froze, I had never really battled before and as far as I new neither of us had any idea of what my moves were.
"Eevee?" He scoffed, "what were you to lazy to name it? Quick attack Storm!"
"Come on Eevee dodge it!" Savannah called. I'm not sure what happened, something kind of clicked. I waited for the him (the pickachu) to get close than jumped to the side, he narrowly missed me and went flying past. "Yeah go Eevee!" she shouted, "use swift!"
I don't know how she knew the move or how I did it but I spun around and crouched as if preparing to pounce. I barley had the chance to register the tingling feeling of energy in my body before it manifested as stars and shot at the slightly dazed pikachu. He was fast I had to admit, he dodged a lot of them but the move overpowered him in sheer side, there were to many stars to escape them all.
"Ow," He said, "you're stronger than you look."
I sat up and looked at him, "thanks?"
"Hey don't take any of this to heart okay, my trainer over there seems to have a grudge against yours." He said, "let's just have fun with this."
"Storm! What are you doing!" his trainer yelled, "use Thunder Shock!"
"Heh, you should probably move," The pikachu said.
I saw static charging around him and decided to take his advice and get out of the way, I didn't fancy being in the way when that bolt struck. I ran in all directions, trying to make myself a harder target. Next thing I knew there was a defining crack and a flash, then I was lying on the ground, it was only then that I realized I had not fully recovered from the encounter with the Houndoom.
"Eevee!" Savannah called. She sounded genuinely concerned, but how could she be, she barely knew me. I staggered to my feet and looked back at her.
"I'm... okay." My opponent was defiantly stronger than me, nothing new there.
"Good you're up! I'm sorry, I don't have any items." She said, "Use growl."
I growled weakly but I doubted that it did anything.
"Pff, you think that'll help," His trainer said, "Storm finish this with Quick Attack!"
The Pikachu looked at me sadly, "sorry."
I just didn't have the strength, I tried to get out of the way but he was to fast. He ran headlong into my side. I hadn't even hit the ground before I blacked out.
