I had rode to the hospital in silence and has waited outside of Arus' room for quite some time when a door opened and the doctor stepped out of the room.
"Are you of relation to this patient?" He asked kindly.
"No I am not."
"Do you know if he has any family members we could contact?" He asked but this time with a stern look on his face. Something told me this wasn't a conversation I wanted to be apart of anymore.
"I don't know sir." My eyes steady gave me more confidence in my responses.
"Well then his condition is of no concern to you miss. Now please carry on." He waved his hand making a shooing motion.
My eyes widened. Was he allowed to say that? "I want to see my friend sir, I would also like to know of his medical state."
"You are of no relation and there fore cannot see him, now get out of my sight girl I have other patience to see today." I was pretty pissed at this guy for being so rude, but I had another way of seeing Arus. I politely nodded and held my hands behind my back as I went around the corner, gritting my teeth.
I made my way out of sight and listened for his foot steps. I soon heard him walking the other direction and fade into the distance. I quietly made my way back to Arus' room and opened the unlocked door. People were so careless sometimes I swear.
I stepped into the room and closed the door behind me. Arus was laying in the bed with a line hooked up to his arm. Bandages were around his head pushing his hair out of his face. He looked so peaceful sleeping there. I walked around to the side of his bed and pulled up a chair and waited. The monitors said he was doing well so I just sat and waited in silence.
A few hours later was when things started to get interesting. The monitors said that his heat level was rising, and rapidly along with his heart rate. I quickly sat up and tried to wake him up, but to no avail. I ran over to the sink and shuffled though the supplies. I found a cup and filled it with cold water and quickly poured it on his face. He woke up instantly and his heart rate and heat started to go down returning to normal.
"What the he- oh Jay!! You're, here? How'd you get here?" He asked fairly surprised. "I thought they locked the doors and stuff."
"Oh yeah the doctor forgot to do that. I'm just glad your not dead! Your heart rate and heat were rising quickly and I couldn't shake you awake so I just poured water on you. Seemed to do the trick." I leaned over and gave him a small hug. He tensed up and relaxed as I let go.
"So yeah thanks for uhh being here, did any of my family stop by?" He leaned over to look out the door window.
"None that I know of." I replied as I turned to look out the window too.
"Oh, I just thought maybe they would've...stopped by." He voice cracked a little and his eyes started to get teary. "I shouldn't expect them to though," he said as he cleared his eyes. "They never do."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that." I said sympathetically, I looked down at his hands that laid by his side.
"I'm just glad you showed up, haha or else I might've been dead." He laughed a little trying to shake the dull and somber aroma the room had gotten into the room in those few second. "Um anyways they said I was fine and could go back to school tomorrow so you should go home and get some rest. Okay?"
"Yes yes it's kinda getting late anyways, good night Arus." I got up from my chair and opened the door to leave, looking both ways before I tip toed my way out, waving with a smile before I closed the door on Arus. He was so kind, and I'll never forget that smile he gave me that night, for there came a time when I closed a door on him for a different reason, and he wasn't smiling.
