Dont attract attention to yourself. Dont attract attention to yourself. I repeated this multiple times as I raced down the twisting hallways of the school. I just wanted to get my schedule and then never be seen again by the student body. I walked up to front office and waited in the fairly short line of students. I was standing in front of a very tall boy, but he looked about my grade. He turned around and smiled at me. I smiled back just wanting to be polite. "I saw you beat up those two seniors today. It was pretty awesome!" He said excitedly. I nodded and smiled sheepishly, secretly wishing he had'nt asked. "What's your name, I'm Cade by the way." The boy stuck out his hand and I wearily held mine out. "I'm Onix. You're not a reader are you?" I asked all to anxiously. "Oh no of course not," He said laughing. I sighed in relief. "I'm a shade." I soon realized he was right. Shades always had nearly pitch black eyes. Shades were quite intersting supernaturals to say the least. They worked in the dark and always looked quite pale. They can travel, so to speak, and were very strong. Each one had a hidden ability that always arrived on their 16th birthday. It was very facsinating. "What are you? I've never seen a supernatural with golden eyes before."

"Oh, I'm an elemental." I spoke softly so that no one could hear except Cade. "Your an elemen-" Befor he could yell out the entire word I had put my palm on his mouth silencing him. I could feel him smirk and in an instant he was standing behind me instead of in front of me. "You know, traveling always gets you out of the toughest situations." He laughed. I pouted and shocked him a little with the lightning I had conjured up earlier. "Ouch, no fair. Don't use your super rare powers on me." He wined. I laughed, "What goes around comes around."

The lady at the front desk called out next. It was Cades turn to get his schedule. The woman typed in some numbers, gave him his student id, and then he was handed a slip of paper. He pointed towards the glass doors that led out of the office. "I'll wait for you there." He whispered, and then he vanished into thin air. I turned around and faced the woman. "Goodmorning," She chirped. "Uh, Goodmorning."

"Name,"

"Onix Todd."

"Age,"

"15,"

"Power,"

"Elemental," The woman shifted uncomfterably in her seat and then looked straight into my eyes. She had the same ones as the guards. After she looked away she continued with her speech. "Okay Ms. Todd, here is your student id." She handed me a lanyard and a name tag. "Keep this with you at all times or else you will be asked to leave." I nodded that I understood and she continued. "Here is your schedule based on your powers."

"Great," I responded about to grab my paper.

"Oh, and you will also get your sepcialties class after taking the compatablilty test."
I let out a small groan. Great more tests. "Any more questions?" She asked. I nodded my head no. "Great, Welcome to Vlademere High." She said calmly. "Next!" She yelled. I cringed when she yelled and quickly walked out the double doors.

Cade was standing there waiting for me like he said he would. "What'd you get?" He asked staring at the strip of paper in my hands. I looked down at it and read off the classes. "Combat skills for first, element bending for second, supernatural history 101 for third, and finally supernatural story writing?" I stared at the last one. I absolutely hated to write. I could never think of anything to write about. Ever. I remember back in middle school with the mortals when I had to take that awful creative writing class, and the whole semester I could'nt write a single thing. I ended up getting an F in that class, and I never fail any of my classes.

"Whats wrong with story writing Onix?" Cade asked while we walked. To where, I didnt know. "Can we just change the subject?" I asked a little on edge. Cade scratched his long shaggy black hair nervously. "Suure, wanna know what my classes are?" He asked uneasily. "Yeah sure." I said trying not to sound too on edge. I could tell he was uncomfortable. "Well we have combat skills together, supernatural history together, and story writing!" He piped up on the last one and grinned. "See you don't have to do this alone, I got you girl!" I laughed. "Thanks.Oh by the way, do you know about this whole specialties class thing?" I asked curiously. "Yeah a little, apparently we're supposed to get a class that helps us fully with our skills so that we dont go around killing people. You know, 'cuz stuff like that isnt really all that pleasent; but it all just depends on what you get on the compatibility test."

"Oh, I see." I paused. "As long as I don't have to deal with annoying people I'm good." I laughed. Cade laughed too. "Agreed."

Cade and I stood in front of the gym with grim looks on our faces. The place smelt of sweat and tears. "You'd think there'd be a supernatural to make the place smell better." Cade whispered as we walked cautiously into our awaiting doom. "Yeah no kidding"

Cade and I decided to sit in the back of the room and await further instruction. Soon enough a quite tall woman stepped out from the shadows in all black. She was pale and had dark eyes, just like Cade. "Hello children and welcome to combat skills. I am Dez, but you will address me as coach. Over the next few months or so we will study and learn about the acts of combat. Now I'm quite certain that about 95% of you all are shades and the other 5% are of some other supernatural, but that is not what we are focused on of course. We are focused on strengthening your fighting skills and figuring out your weaknesses. Any questions?" She paused and looked around the room.

A girl with very short black hair and piercings all along her ear raised her hand. "Name." Dez stated staring at the girl. "My name is Amber."

"Ok Amber, what is your question?"

"What type of supernatural are you?" She piped up. She turned around briefly to look at what I assumed was her friend. I caught a glimpse of her eyes. Coal black.

"I, my dear am a shade like yourself. What a silly question to ask really. Even the girl back there figured it out and she's not even a shade." Dez pointed blatantly towards me and my eyes widened immediately. Everyone turned to face me and I heard a few gasps. I was actually confused as to why they would be shocked I mean Dez did say 5% of us would be non shades, but as I looked around my stomach sank. I was that 5%.

I quickly dismissed that thought and boldly raised my hand.

"Name." Dez stated.

"Onix, Onix Todd."

"Okay Onix, I trust your question will prove to have more meaning than Ambers?"

"I'll leave that up to you ma'am." I said timidly.

"We'll go ahead then." She walked gracefully around the room staring at each student before getting to me.

"You read minds?" I finally asked. She smiled and nodded. "Yes it's the power I got on my 16th birthday.Very observant of you really.Anything else?" She questioned. No one raised their hands. They all just glared at me. "Well let's begin."
