Chapter 10:

DINNER AT THE OOTORI'S

As Akari and Kyouya drove home inside the long white limo that also drove them to school that day, they both stayed silent for a while. Then, since she wondered so much, Akari decided to ask him her question. "So, how much of what I said out on the garden did you hear?" Akari asked, glancing over at Kyouya.

"Enough to know" Kyouya answered, as he kept his stare out the window.

"So, 'enough to know' would approximate at how much time?"

"Let's just say i dropped in at you picking up the tulip."

"Hmm, then do you think differently of me now."

"I didn't really know what to think of you from the beginning, you're a very surprising person, I didn't expect you to walk out the host club that hastily."

"Well, I suppose I am, but that's only because you're here--" Akari said honestly, quickly shutting her mouth after noticing what she had said.

"Hmm, so is that a compliment?" Kyouya asked, as he smirked slightly.

"If you want to believe it is, go right ahead, anyways why did you follow me out of the host club?"

"Well, it seemed as if you were troubled, it's one of my responsibilities to keep my fiancè happy."

Akari turned her eyes away from him and looked out the window thoughtful. "Well, good luck with that" She whispered as she reached over to Kyouya and pulled the still-blooming tulip out of his hair, throwing it out the window to get caught up by the wind. Kyouya looked at her with a sense of interest and surprise, as he ran his fingers through his hair.

Finally, the limo arrived at the Ootori's large mansion. Kyouya got off first, then helped Akari get off. "Is it fine that I'm having dinner here without anyone from my family accommodating me?" Akari asked, already knowing the answer, but just feeling like asking.

"Well, let's just say, since I'll be your family in a year or so, I'll count" Kyouya answered, as he walked up the steps to the house, looking back at her.

"Well, that's half-logical, so I'll take it" Akari said, as she caught up with Kyouya.

The chauffeur pushed the huge white doors to the mansion open, letting Akari and Kyouya walk in. Mr. and Mrs. Ootori were there waiting, along with Kyouya's two brothers and his sister. "Hello, Akari, it's a pleasure to see you again, thank you for agreeing to come over tonight" Mr. Ootori said, as he stepped forward and shook her hand. The rest of the family followed, smiling, complimenting her, and shaking her hand.

The butler quickly led them all into the dining hall, where Mr. Ootori insisted Akari sat next to Kyouya. They all sat, drinking a fragrantly imported tea and small talking. "So Akari, have you gotten to know Kyouya better?" Mrs. Ootori asked, as she gave a polite smile to Akari from across the table.

"Hmm, well I suppose I have, considering what I knew before to what I know now" Akari answered, as she looked over at Kyouya daintily drinking his tea and slightly smiled.

"Oh, that's good, I was hoping you would, you need to know as much as you can about each other before next month" Mrs.Ootori said, as she still shined that sweet smile.

"Next month? For what reason?"

"Hasn't your father told you? That's when you and Kyouya shall be married!"

Akari looked up from her tea cup in full surprise. "Oh, this is my first hearing about his, why so sudden?"

"Well, we were thinking, you two are in your second years of high school, you only have a few more weeks then your third year to go and you'll be out, so we thought the sooner the better" Mr. Ootori answered for his wife.

"Oh I see, well, if you feel it's right, I suppose" Akari said, as she tried to keep her composure by drinking some more of her tea. "So hastily, so hastily, can I even still get out of this?" Akari asked herself.

A while after, the food came in, it was a shrimp linguine, with dishes of lobster chowder accompanying it. During the feast, Akari started small talk with the Ootori's, even Kyouya would join in occasionally when it was related to something interesting. The whole room was full of polite talk and occasional laughs.

"I can see what your father meant about you, Akari, you're a very bright lady" Mr. Ootori said, as he wiped his mouth lightly.

"Thank you sir, but I've met many others much better than I" Akari said, as she thought about her own inner attitude for a bit before noticing her cell phone started ringing. "Excuse me" She said, as she walked out of the dining room into the hallway. She picked up the phone to find her father's stern voice on the other end.

"Did dinner with Kyouya's family go smoothly?" he asked.

"Yes father, it was a delight, but fath--"

"Oh good, you must be sure to be charming and use your manners around them."

"Of course father I know, bu--"

"Good, make sure you don't act foolish, you may be a teenager, but you're a daughter of an important entrepreneur."

"...Yes, father, I understand."

"Nice, make sure to come home soon."

"Okay father, I lov-- well, bye." Akari quickly hung up, putting the phone away and putting her hand onto her forehead, a little tired. "I can't even say I love you to him anymore" Akari whispered, as she held in her tears, "he wouldn't listen even if I did ask him about anything". Akari turned around to see Kyouya waiting near the door, his eyes staring down the hall.

"Did you hear all of it?" Akari asked, as she stared directly at him.

"Most" he answered back.

"What's with you answering in things i have to riddle out of you" Akari said, as she gave a slight chuckle, walking over to the door.

"I'm just a challenging man."

"I can already tell that."

Kyouya paused and looked over at Akari with a blank expression, studying her eyes. "Come on, I'll give you a ride home."

"Thank you."

Kyouya drove Akari home, pulling into the driveway and getting off with her. "I'll walk you to the door" He told her.

They both walked to the door together, stepping onto the top step and facing each other. "Thank you very much, Kyouya, I'll see you in the morning" Akari said, as she bowed slightly.

"My pleasure, oh, and one more thing" Kyouya said. Akari looked up at him as he lowered his head and kissed her softly, holding onto her lips for a few seconds before letting go, still seeming unchanged. "Good night, my betrothed" Kyouya said with a slight grin as he looked at her blushing face before walking down the stairs.

Akari stood on the porch of her large mansion, stricken with surprise, as Kyouya's car pulled out of the drive way and drove away. She stood there in shock for a few minutes before touching her lips softly and slowly walking inside the two large doors of the mansion.
