I tucked my new ID and handheld in my pocket and pulled my hood over my head. The crunch of my boots on the snow made me even more anxious as I walked away from the headquarters. What I had just done was probably the most illegal thing I could have done. I kept my head down as I walked to my best friend's pub. He'd know what to do, he always does.

~~~~~~
I swung the door open and was greeted by the lively chatter of drunk and sober people alike. As I was shaking the snow off my hood and out of my hair I suddenly heard a shriek from the kitchens in the back. I ran to the source of the scream and found Adam's father on the ground, Adam above him.
"Victoria! I don't know what happened he just collapsed," he said in a panic.
"What am I gonna do? We can't go to the hospital, we may have electricity but we don't have that kind of money," he sobbed.
I patted his back, "I don't know kid. I guess we just-"
"Is anyone here a doctor?" Adam yelled as he stood up.
A man raised his hand and ran back to where we were. He listened for a heartbeat as Adam told him what happened.  He looked up at Adam and the look on his face didn't look good. "I'm sorry, by what it sounds like it seems your father went into cardiac arrest and passed away. Since it was about five minutes before you called me over here he passed away in that time."
Adam burst into tears and hugged me.
"I'm so sorry Adam," I said, rubbing his back.
"Well, he was having heart troubles long before this. He was in a lot of pain," he said sniffing.
"We can't afford a funeral for him, do I just bury him out back?" He asked.
The doctor nodded and got up, patting his shoulder as he walked away.
As we stood over his father's makeshift grave I knew I had to tell Adam about me joining The Elite. But was this really the time?
Before I even thought I blurted out, "I joined The Elite."
"You what?!?!?"
