12 August 1994,

Seraphina experienced the most awkward dinner in her life that night. Her mother had put her right across the table from Draco Malfoy, and even when she tried to avoid any eye contact, she could feel his cold grey eyes settled on her, as if trying to seek out her hidden secrets and ugliest flaws.

Thankfully, they didn't have to make much talk, although Mr. and Mrs. Meyer tried to hitch up a conversation at every opportunity, stopping at no measures.

Halfway through the rather fantastic meal, there was a faint thud upstairs, coming suspiciously from the direction of Seraphina's room. No one seemed to take any notice, but Seraphina excused herself, wanting to go investigate.

She crept up the stairs, the polite chat fading behind her, surpassing the urge to scream as the light in her room flicked on, then off a second after.

Heart thudding as she neared, she kicked open her door with unintentional force and clapped her hand over her mouth as her door seemed to slam into something, judging by the angry yelp.

She peered inside, and to her relief, saw a grumbling mess of dark hair collapsed on her carpet floor, cursing.

"Harry! Oh my goodness, did I hit you?" Seraphina let out an anxious giggle, wringing her hands.

Harry's eyes lit up at the sight of her, and before she knew what was happening, he wrapped her in a big hug, tackling her to the plush carpet. Seraphina didn't realize how much she'd missed this until the familiar feeling of security enveloped her and the light scent of sandalwood reached her nose.

They sat in silence for a few minutes, her head on Harry's shoulder, and it felt as if the rest of the world had vanished. Until a loud clink of dinnerware from downstairs brought them back to reality, bringing up the obvious question in Seraphina's mind.

"What are you doing here?" she blurted out, flushing slightly as she realized how rude she must have sounded. Harry took no notice, though.

"You didn't show for the longest time, and you weren't answering my letters, so I-" he broke off, a sudden blush taking over his face. "... I got worried."

"Letters? I only received one," Seraphina said, puzzled.

"I tried sending them the Muggle way at first, but there was no response, so I tried Hedwig." A feeble hoot came from a lump under Seraphina's covers, as if agreeing with Harry's words.

Ah. A light clicked in Seraphina's head— that explained her parents' worried glances at the mailbox on the mornings. Seraphina had even caught her father trying to drill the mail slot shut.

"Oh, I see. How did you get here?" she asked.

"There are benefits of being a wizard," Harry grinned, and Seraphina couldn't help but smile back.
