First Dance

The night ended way to fast.

I just wanted it to last.

His hand lingered in mine

Sending tingles up my spine.

Dancing alone in the crowded gym

My body and heart acting on a whim.

My legs carried me over to where he was

The loud gym emitting a buzz.

We talked and laughed for quiet a while

Everything he said causing me to smile.

I was surprised when he asked me to dance

I didn't think I would ever have the chance.

What he didn't know was it was my first

My heart felt ready to burst.

His arms were wrapped around my waist

Our swaying slow and paced.

The song ended, making me sad

But it was the best dance I had.

We danced two more times that night,

never leaving each others sight.

After that night, we never danced again.

Going back to being just a friend.
