Adabelle Bloom walked out of Room 76, her room, and into the common area. She sat in the plastic folding chair in the far corner of the room, as she did every day, and looked around, pulling her knees against her chest. She was the first one there, as it was still pretty early in the morning.
After a while, people started to file in, all awaiting breakfast time, which was from 9:30 to 10:00. Adabelle avoided looking at anyone and instead stared intensely at her mix matched socks. One gray with black stars and one white with black bows. She usually stayed like that every day, not looking at or interacting with anyone. She hated how she couldn't just go back to her room and stay there. She didn't have a roommate, so she would be alone. But sadly, the hospital didn't allow that. You had to stay in one of the common areas from morning until bedtime unless you were in Seclusion.
It wasn't exactly like Adabelle was mute, but she knew that's what people thought of her. She never talked, but that was because every time she was near anyone ever, she got severe anxiety. Anytime she tried to talk, she would end up stuttering, so she opted for staying quiet.
Adabelle continued staring at her socks as she sucked on her bottom lip. Not having anything else to do, Adabelle did what she always did. Sang a song in her head. It's sounds weird, but music had always helped her, and they won't let her have her music at the hospital, so she listened to her favorite songs in her head.
I am tired of this place, I hope people change.
I need time to replace what I gave away.
And my hopes they are high I must keep them small.
Though I try to resist I still want it allI see swimming pools and living rooms and aeroplanes.
I see a little house on the hill and children's names.
I see quiet nights poured over ice and tanqueray.
But everything is shattering and it's my mistake.Only fools fall for you, only fools.
Only fools do what I do, only fools fall.Adabelle's mind quickly went to Ellie. She had liked Ellie as more than a friend for a long time. It was kind of ridiculous. Not like they were really ever friends, but Ellie was really friendly. Adabelle smiled, thinking about Ellie, how beautiful, and understanding she was, and how she didn't hate Adabelle even though there were so many rumors about them.
No, stop it! Adabelle thought to herself. You can't keep obsessing over her like this! She sighed, Ellie was the only thing besides music that made her smile. She frowns back at her socks. Only fools...
Breakfast started, and Adabelle walked to the cafeteria and ate alone, as usual. She didn't really want to, but if she didn't, she would most likely be put on a special anorexic eating plan, and she didn't want that. After breakfast, she walked back to the common room. When she got there, a nurse was waiting for her. Adabelle sighed internally. It was time for private therapy.
Private therapy is twice a week and every patient has to go. It's almost the same as group therapy, which is also twice a week.
"Doctor Joseph is waiting for you Adabelle." the nurse said softly.
Adabelle just nodded and followed the nurse to the doctors office.
