First day of her sophomore year, Ellie Carter entered Mason High School with her best friend, Anna. Immediately, the whispering and gossip started. Ellie held on tight to her friends arm for support.
'I heard she's dating someone'
'I heard her girlfriend tried to kill herself'
'I didn't know she had a girlfriend'
'I didn't even know she was gay'
It just kept going from there, as Ellie walked to her advisory class not paying attention to what Anna was babbling about.
Ellie knew that Adabelle had a crush on her, everybody did. She was always nice to Adabelle about it, not making fun of her like most people did. Ever since people found out in the 7th grade that she liked Ellie, Adabelle tended to isolate herself more than usual. Ellie always wondered how people found out in the first place. Adabelle never talked to anybody, so how did people know?
The worst thing about this was it became harder for Ellie to deny the fact that she liked girls. She hadn't been planning on coming out anytime soon, but she kind of had to. She still wasn't entirely public about it, but more people knew than she would've liked.
Ellie continued walking down the crowded halls with her best friend. They got to Anna's advisory first.
"Hey Ellie I know it's hard with all the rumors going around but don't worry." Anna said before giving Ellie a quick hug and walking into the classroom.
Confused, Ellie walked to her own advisory class. Lately all her friends had been treating her like they thought she might try to kill herself too. Why would they think that? It's not like she was close to Adabelle, no one was. Ellie sighed and walked into her class and sat down in one of the desks near the back. Deciding to try not to over think things, she listened to the people around her while she waited for class to start.
Many people were just talking about their summer, but their was one conversation that piqued her interest.
"you know that girl that almost killed herself."
"yeah"
"she's in the mental hospital."
"woah really?"
"yeah she's officially crazy now"
Ellie furrowed her eyebrows as the assholes laughed at Adabelle. Was she really in the mental hospital?
The late bell rang, and class started but Ellie wasn't listening as she found herself wondering if there was any way she could've helped Adabelle.
