Anupam's Cures shop was located on the corner of Willow and Market street. It was a rusty, rickety building that fit in perfectly with the others on the rundown side of town. The inside was very small, about 400 square feet (not including the back room). Luckily, the Store was only one mile away from Ruth's house, so Ruth could easily bike to it. The one problem though, was that Ruth's parents were very protective of their children, and would never let Ruth bike to the other side of town alone considering that was where all of the neighborhood thugs roamed. Of course Ruth could have asked If they could drive her, but Ruth had a feeling that if she told her parents, they wouldn't let her go even if they were with her. Ruth decided that it would be better if she snuck out by herself.

Sunday, Donny's baseball team was going to championships. That meant Ruth's mom, dad, and all three brothers would be gone for at least three hours, leaving her at home by herself.

Sunday came quickly after a day of plotting Ruth's escape. Ruth had snuck out before a couple of times, but never to do something as big of a deal as this. The morning was a hustle for Ruth's parents, getting the misbehaving boys in the car and checking to make sure everybody had remembered everything. But luckily, Everybody managed to get on the road with their heads fully on. As soon as They had left, Ruth crept out of her bedroom with the backpack she had gotten together the night before. She set it on the table, then poured out all of its belongings to recheck that she wasn't missing anything.

"Alright," Ruth said to herself. "I have my map. Check!" She held up a map of town that she found in the living livingroom. She had labeled on it a red dot to represent where her house was, a star where Anupam's Cures was, and a dotted line to show the rout she was to take to get from the dot to the star. She then put the map back into her backpack. In her head, Ruth continued to check off the things she had packed. "Water Bottle- check! Snacks- check! Money- check! Pocketknife- check!"

Ruth was just about to head into the shed to get on her bike when she realized that she couldn't go outside with the hair she was wearing. Although she usually didn't care what other people thought of her, It would be terribly embarrassing if anybody she knew saw her like that, so she ran up stairs to her room, and pulled her remaining hair back into a ponytail. She snuck into her brothers room and took a baseball cap to cover the top of her head. Then, she went into her moms room. Her mom barely wore makeup, but Ruth found a brown eyeliner pencil, and traced eyebrows onto her forehead. The eyeliner-eyebrows made her look slightly angry since they were tilted in, but you couldn't tell they were fake unless you were close up to Ruth's face.

Finally, Ruth headed into the shed and got on her bike.
