Rebecca

"Mary!!" I squeeze the girl that I haven't seen in three days. "I'm so happy you've decided to join me."

She shrugs. "It wouldn't kill me to do a little soulmate searching."

"Or we can not look for them and just have some fun." I smile widely.

"Rebecca come on. Aren't you the least bit worried about your future?" She frowns. "Life isn't about fun."

I cross my arms. "Oh yeah? Then what's it about?"

"It's about finding the one and raising children and continuing the human race that need I remind you was close to extinction. You should feel lucky. You have great genetics. You're allowed six children. I can only have two."

"Come on Mary. Don't you ever want to stop worrying and have fun with your life?" I groan. "Just promise me one night without all the responsibility lectures? Please?"

She sighs. "Fine."

My driver Mark drops us off at my favorite club. Upon entering I'm given the number sixteen and Mary is given two.

"Why don't we have the same number?" She begins to panic.

"Relax." I put my arm around her shoulder. "I come here all the time so my number is higher. It's numbered one through twenty. Shocking he gave you a two already though."

"Okay but how does this work?" She asks. I can see her fighting to discuss how unfair it is in this all too fair society.

"They call two or three numbers at a time. When your number is called you can go dance. And you can only have one drink per hour so don't waste it." I smile.

"Alright everyone!" The man at the DJ booth calls. "For this next song we want number fifteen, nine, and" he pauses looking around the crowd, "let's throw the twos in."

A large group of people rush to the dance floor but Mary stays. "Go." I demand pushing her into the crowd.

I make my way to the bar and stand next to a group of men. The man closest to me is the shortest. He leans in next to me and smirks. "What's your tat? I'd love a pretty little girl like yourself."

I shrug. "What's yours? I'm not looking and I could use a good laugh."

He hikes his sleeve up to show a thick, dark circle with a mouse in it. I giggle. "Sorry that's definitely not mine."

The man next to him steps up and I notice Mary return to my side. This man is slightly taller and built bigger. Although, his face is one that could easily be forgotten. He pushes up his sleeve and shows a tattoo of a cat being chased by a dog.

I shake my head. "Nope. Is that all or do you want to try too?" I nod toward the tallest and darkest figure in the group.

He stares down and me and snaps his fingers. The other two men disappear into the crowded club.

"How about I take you to dinner?" The tall dark figure leans over me.

I laugh. "We don't have matching tattoos."

He shakes his head. "I notice the lack of a wedding band on your finger. You haven't found him yet. I am not him but I'd like to treat you to a dinner. Not a date."

I look at Mary who takes the signal and walks away. "Why? What's the catch?"

"No catch. I find you quite intriguing." His vocal pattern changes not once. Every word out of his mouth seems rehearsed as if he's said it a million times.

"And if I say no?" I challenge.

"I assume you won't." He stares into my eyes. "You have many questions for me stirring through your head. Give me one dinner and I shall answer one question."

I scoff and roll my eyes. "Excuse me but I don't even know your name. No. I'm not having dinner with you."

"Rebecca Marie Willson." He says quietly grabbing my arm. "I don't believe you're in the position to be turning me down. Are you?"

My heart begins to beat faster and faster in my chest. "How-"

"I know a lot about you Becky. Now how about that dinner?"

I nod. "Yes. Yes I'll have dinner with you." I whisper.

He releases my arm and takes my phone out of my hand, typing something quickly before returning it. I watch as he walks past me and out the door. Who is he?
