The Other Raptor

I was peacefully sleeping until I heard a strange noise.  It sounded like

something fairly small was running towards me.  Blinking, I leaned

forward and looked around.  Nothing was in sight, and I became

worried.  The running sound started again, this time much

closer to me.  I heard a small click with every small thud,

and I held my hands up, as if that would do anything

against a ravenous dinosaur.  But the killing blow

never came.  I opened my eyes slowly, seeing what

decided not to kill me, and came face-to-face with

a small velociraptor.  It was pretty small, only

reaching my hip if I stood up.  It was also all grey,

no patterns along its back or anything.  I looked

at it closely, studying it.  It looked about a year

old or so, seeing as how it wasn't like how my

had looked.  I turned into a raptor, and it jumped

back in surprise, squealing.  I figured it was alone

since there were no other raptors with it.

"Are you a girl?" I asked.  "All dinosaurs

on the island are girls.  Literally."

The Small One(my nickname for it)

bobbled its head, in which I could only assume

was meant to be a yes.  She glanced at me, as if studying

me also.  I figured she needed a name, and I thought about

it while she looked at me.

"Fog." I finally said.  "Your name is Fog."

Fog blinked and chirped, as if she liked her name.  I smiled,

and of the first time since my sisters died, I let go of my worries.
