A/N : this is just really a character development chapter, and idk of people even read these but Hey! enjoy :)

tyler heard a knock at the door that snapped him out of his moth infatuated trance. he hasn't talked to anyone out side of his family in over a month. he hoped his sister would hear the door but she didn't. he went to go tell her to answer the door but she wasn't in her room after all. so tyler had to do it. he checked his hair to make sure he didn't look too disgusting. his black hoodie and black Adidas track pants that he had been wearing for the past three days looked like they were three days worn. he hesitated before opening the door but pulled it open anyway. stood at his front door on a wednesday afternoon in july, stood a boy with blue hair and piercings. tyler was taken aback by seeing a different person other than his mom or his sister, let alone a boy, a cute one at that. he stuttered out a faint 'hello' and was cursing himself in his head for being so damn awkward.

"yeah, hi, im josh and i live down the street and i wanted to know if i could use your phone for a minute?" this josh said with a half smile and worried eyes.

"oh, yeah yeah, sure" tyler said with a nod of his head and let blue haired josh come in his home.

"the house phone is to your left on the table. i'm tyler by the way." tyler said trying to be as helpful as possible.

"thank you for this, dude." josh said with a smile.

"no problem, dude." tyler said in a mocking tone with a smile so it didn't sound so mean. josh just smiled as he punched in the numbers he needed to call.

tyler was trying not to eavesdrop as hard as he could but josh sounded angry so he was raising his voice. which kind of terrified tyler because josh sounded scary when he was yelling. josh apparently was supposed to get to a party across town and his ride cancelled on him.

"you never pull through for me you jackass!" josh said as he hung up the phone. he put the phone back on the table and then studied tyler.

"sorry about that, most friends of mine are assholes. I was supposed to go to this party for my friend's birthday. oh man he's gonna hate me for not showing up" josh said as he put his face in his hands and made up and down motions.

"i have a license." tyler said simply and looked over at josh. he had nothing better to do.

"oh man you don't have to do that, i don't wanna waste your gas or anything." josh said with plead in his voice.

"but i want to." to be fair, tyler hasn't left his house in a week and was itching to get outside. and frankly, he did kind of like this josh kid.

"ah, alright if you say so, thank you." josh said with his hands up.

they used tyler's sister's car because tyler said she wouldn't mind. for the first part of the car ride it was silent. the air conditioning and the soft radio was the only thing breaking the silence.

"mind if i smoke in here?" josh asked politely, josh was trying as hard as he could to be sweet to this kid who didn't seem to have a mean bone in his body. josh noticed how innocent tyler looked, josh liked that.

"yeah, sure just let me open up the windows" tyler said trying not to sound uncool, because he was so hopelessly uncool. tyler rolled down the windows and josh lit his cigarette and took a long drag.

"never start smoking" josh said and laughed softly to himself. his hazel eyes caught the moonlight perfectly. tyler took note of that. josh looked a bit rough around the edges and was dangerous, tyler liked that.

"i've been tempted before but have never worked up the courage i guess" tyler said with a shrug.

"do you wanna try?" josh asked, unsure if tyler would feel uncomfortable. "you can say no" josh said to be sure.

"um, uh, yeah, sure, yes." tyler said hesitantly. he wanted to impress josh so bad. but as tyler said yes, josh pulled up to the house josh needed be at and josh gave tyler the whole cigarette and opened his door.

"keep it, it's as much as i can do, thank you for the ride tyler! maybe we can hang out again sometime?" josh threw tyler a piece of paper with seven digits on it.

"my number, see ya ty!" josh said with the close of a door, and turned on his heel and walked up the driveway of the shack of a house.

tyler smoked the cigarette on his way home, having to stop to have coughing fits every other minute. he made sure to rush in the house because his mother's car was in the driveway. he turned the key to the door and hoped to god everyone was asleep. they were. there was food on the dinign room table with a note from his mother that read

Ty, im glad you went out somewhere! I had some food on the table for you. I'm in bed and will see you in the morning! love you ty! - mom

tyler was glad his mother wasn't angry and was relived that there was food. tyler ate and then went to bed. he fell asleep with the goofiest smile in his face. he fell asleep happy for once. tyler felt warmth in his chest that seemed to have been there before.
