Later that same day, you're sitting in your bedroom, surrounded by your Attack on Titan themed comforter, hugging your Totoro plusher while listening to "Lost Boy" by Ruth B and working on your chemistry homework (man your awesome!). It is about 7 o'clock, and your mom had texted you earlier, letting you know she'll be home soon, just having finished her shift at the hospital.

Your mom is a nurse working at the local hospital, constantly taking extra shifts so as to make sure there was enough money to pay rent and such. You had tried to babysit your neighbors kids to help make money, but that didn't last long when the kids mom found out you had mild depression.

You and your mom lived in a two bedroom, one bathroom apartment. The complex you lived in was about 2 miles away from your school.

Checking the time, you decided that you should start making dinner. Pushing your chem homework to the side, planning on doing  it later, and unwrapping your comforter from around you, you grab you laptop and carry it out to the kitchen, your phone in your other hand. Now "Don't Let Me Down" by The Chainsmokers were blaring from your laptop as you set it, and your phone, on the kitchen counter. You decide to make grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup.

As you started cooking, your mind drifted back to your tutoring session earlier, and the two boys who were able to make you truly smile and laugh, other than your mom. Suddenly you come to the realization that you couldn't wait to see them tomorrow. Just as that thought crossed you mind, the front door of the apartment opened, and along with the cold wind, your mom stepped in, closing the door behind herself.

You took note of the tiredness that was present in her face, but she still gave you a happy smile, her eyes still twinkling with laughter. "I'm sorry, I was going to try and make it home early today so that I could take a turn cooking dinner, but I was given another shift at the last minute." is the first thing she said, while she started taking off the layers of clothing she had on to battle the cold weather.

Pausing your music on your laptop, you walk over to her and gave her a warm hug in greeting, "It's alright mom, I know how hard you have to work everyday." your voice is muffled into her shoulder, but she understood every word.

She sighed, and seemed as if to return your hug, but instead stuck her hands underneath the back of your shirt, placing her freezing cold hands against your bare back. You suck in a gasp at the coldness, and tried to wiggle away from her, but she merely pulled you closer, snuggling closer to you and stating, "You're really warm."

You sigh and pat her back, before trying to pull away again, "Mom, I need to finish dinner. Go hold your hands about the stove I have it on."

She sighed again, before withdrawing her hands from your skin. This is how it always was bstweebe the two of you after the divorce. The two of you were able to share these small moments of silliness, her being the only one who was able to make you smile.

Until now, you thought as you set out to finish making dinner.

A while later, after eating, your mom went ahead to use the shower first while you started to wash the dishes. Halfway done, your cellphone chirps from its place on the counter, signalling to you that you had a text. Curious as to who it could be, you quickly dried your hands and picked up your phone. Surprised, you see that Jack had texted you.

J: hey (y/n), I really need some of your awesome help against my archenemy please!!

You quickly reply: sure, what's up?; before finishing with the rest of the dishes, then you grab your laptop and phone, then made your way back into your bedroom. Right after you had comfortably settled yourself on your bed, you got another text.
