Y/N L/N was brave.

She always had been. The other children at Wammy's would run from bugs, or scary television shows. But not her.

But even the strongest of people have their weaknesses.

YN was scared of very few things. It was a rarity for her to be afraid.

Nothing scared her more than thunderstorms.

Yes, she knew it was silly. But no one else bad to know how terrified she was.

But on a quiet Saturday night, which was a rare event in itself for the children, a storm began to brew outside. The fourteen year old was huddled inside her room with blankets surrounding her. Her lights were off, but multiple flashlights rested inside her makeshift cave.

She was trying to calm herself down enough to crawl out, but she continued to shiver. Her door opened and she heard laughter. She peeked out and saw her roommate, Linda, staring at her while laughing loudly.

"You?! Scared of a little rain?!" she wheezed through her laughs. "S-shut up!" YN squeaked, jumping as the rain got harder and faster in an instant. Linda laughed and left the room, planning to brag to the other kids that she was the bravest.

The door opened and YN closed her eyes, pulling the blanket tighter. "YN?"

YN peeked out to meet the blue-green eyes of Mello, a boy her age. "Y-yeah?" she stuttered. "What are you doing?" he asked with a sideways smile. "J-just relaxing.." He came over and pulled away two of the blankets.

A bright flash of lightning illuminated the room as thunder echoed down all the halls. YN screamed, trying to blink away tears that threatened to fall. She was so ashamed of her fear. Mello frowned and crouched down to join her.

The tears were slowly slipping down her cheeks now. "H-hey.. you're really scared, aren't ya?" he asked. YN nodded sadly, mad herself for being caught so vulnerably.

"I'm right here," he said, sitting close beside her and adjusting the blankets so they covered both teens. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into his chest.

YN sniffled, holding on to his shirt. She was full on sobbing now, positively mortified. Mello pressed gentle kisses onto her head as he rubbed her arms and back soothingly. YN's eyes fluttered closed as Mello hummed softly.

Her eyes opened as the clouds began to drift away. Mello was smiling down at her, hugging her tightly. YN smiled softly, wiping her cheeks. "Thank you, Mello."

Mello kissed her cheek and stood up to go to bed himself. "Anytime, Princess."

He paused at her door. "Next time there's a storm, tell me." He walked out of the room, leaving YN to clean the mess of fabric off of the floor. Maybe storms weren't so bad after all.
