9:30 pm
Ugh, come on. I know there's still some toothpaste in this tube? I put all my weight on my palm, and finally squeeze out the last little ooze of toothpaste. I scrape it on my toothbrush, wet the bristles, and begin brushing my teeth. Suddenly, I hear a faint buzzing noise. Oh, it's my phone. Why is Dayl calling me so late at night? Toothbrush still in my mouth, I pick up.

"Ha-o?"

"Madeline, you alright there?"

"I ru-hing by teeh"

"You're hugging a tree?"

I take the toothbrush out of my mouth. "Hold on." I spit out the minty foam, and swish some water in my mouth. "Sorry, I was brushing my teeth."

"OHHHHHHH! Well I guess that makes more sense than hugging a tree."

"Yeah it does," I laugh. "Why are you calling me so late? Are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine. I'm just calling you to let you know I'm waiting for you outside."

"What!?"

"You heard me. Come outside."

"Uhhhhh... Can I ask why?"

"We're gonna do something fun. Are you in or not?"

"Dayl it's almost 10 at night and I'm not even dressed to go out, I'm in my pajamas!"

"Ah so you're actually dressed perfectly for where we're going. Bring a blanket too, if you want." I'm quiet for a second before I let out a loud sigh.

"Fine, I'll be there in a minute."

I put my toothbrush back in its designated spot and put on the closest pair of shoes near me. What am I doing!? It's a school night! Whatever, I'll get an extra shot of espresso in my coffee tomorrow. I grab a warm plush blanket off my bed and head out the door. As expected, Dayl was in the drivers seat of a little blue sedan, yelling "come on!" When he saw me. I sprinted through the chilly fall air and in to the passengers seat of his car, which was nice and toasty.

"Wanna tell me where we're going?" I ask him.

"Nope." He replies, and starts driving.

     "DAYL!"

"Just trust me, okay?" Instead of a verbal response, I just sighed, crossed my arms, and sat back in my seat.

When Dayl finally looks over and sees me pouting. "Come on, don't be like that! Besides, were almost here." He pulls the car up to a drive through window. A muffled voice is heard through a speaker.

"Good evening, welcome to McDonald's can I take your order?" Asks what sounds like a half asleep young man.

"Err, yeah, can I get three Big Mac combos and a 20 piece nugget?" Dayl pretty much yells before turning to me and asking "d'ya want anything?"

"I left my wallet at home..."

"I didn't ask where your wallet was, I asked if you wanted anything."

"Oh! Uh, a small strawberry milkshake should be fine. Preferably no cherries."

"You fine with whipped cream?"

"Yeah"

Dayl turns back to the speaker and continues ordering. "And can I get a large strawberry milkshake with no cherries? Actually put extra whipped cream because I'm not paying for non existent cherries." I silently giggle, I wonder what the cashier is thinking? It must not really phase him, since we get the monotone reply of "Will that be all for you sir?"
