Prologue
Continuous beeping starts echoing around my room.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
What the hell is that? I thought to myself while moving around my bed, trying to find that annoying sound. Opening my eyes, I was flashed by blinding light coming from my vibrating phone. I immediately closed them, irritated. I just received a message.
6:30 AM. Who would send me a text at this time ?
I took a deep breath, sat up straight on my bed and grabbed my phone to read the text.
[D, I’ll be at your house in 10 minutes. You better be awake. A xx]
I’ve known Ashley my whole life, not only was she my best friend but she was like a sister to me. We met in kindergarten and we just clicked. We were so different that you would never think that the two of us could ever be friends, but the friendship between us was one I would cherish forever. When she usually says 10 minutes, she literally means it. This girl has never been late. Like ever. I had to get ready before she came. I jumped out of my bed and walked to the bathroom that was on the other side of the hall to take a quick bath.
Scrubbing my body and washing my hair twice with my strawberry scented shampoo, I was done. I wrapped a towel around my body, brushed my teeth and washed my face at the sink. After I was finished, I walked back to my room to get ready. It was pretty hot outside, so I decided to wear my pair of shorts and a t-shirt.
Just as I was about to drop the towel, I turned around and came across familiar faces that belonged to the Henderson brothers. Not one, but ten of them, each dressed in immaculate black suits. They were standing there, gawking. I had a sudden urge to laugh. The way they were standing with shocked expressions reminded me of our first encounter a week ago. I felt all the air rush out of my body. I remembered something I didn’t want to.
Today was the funeral, my family’s funeral.
Then I fainted.
