As I walk through the school doors of Birdington High, I head towards the guidance counselor's office. I was here yesterday with my mom, but I couldn't start due to coming to showing up so late in the day. My heart was racing making my palms sweat. Everyone was staring at me, the new girl. I had a straight face, probably giving out glares. First impression? Horrifying.
Being showed around to my classes was awful. The chauffeur, a senior, asked me how I ended up here. A normal question for the new kid, I guess. I just said it was due to my mom's job, which was true. I already wanted this day to be over with.
The senior drops me off at my first block teacher, Mr. Theo. He decided that it would best that I be placed in the middle the of class. It's Physical Science and everyone else was sitting at a lab table. I could feel all the eyes on me, but he quickly gave them a test while I gave him my information. Finally, getting a chance to glance around my eyes stopped about my 10 o'clock, landing on a boy about my age.
His silver lip ring is the first thing that caught my eye. His brown hair pushed to the side with blonde tips made him look handsome. I saw an earring in his ear, more specifically a black gage that looked like a bull ring. The way he carried himself made him look dangerous, maybe even scary. He looked like he might rip me apart just by his stare, but I knew it wasn't possible. He looks up and his light blue eyes glance at mine. Giving me a slight smirk I had to control myself from turning red. Even from that light gesture I'm already looking like a tomato, without knowing his name.
I quickly advert my eyes back down to my paper. Once the teacher collected my information he sits me right next to the boy with the lip ring. I am terrified, hoping the boy would play nice. There is two other boys at the table, making me the only girl. I look towards my left, at the boy, to see he was already studying my features.
I had decided to wear a dress, today. It was white with pinkish red floral designs on a Navy blue background. My light brown hair with scarlet tips that reach my shoulder blades. My hazel eyes look a little more gray than normal. My skin is paler than normal due to being nervous. I slowly put my black and white Supernatural backpack down next to me.
"I see you like Supernatural," Was the first sentence to come out of his mouth. I slightly jumped not expecting any conversations. His voice is deep, but not too deep. I then realized he was waiting for a reply, about my backpack of course.
Slightly nodding, "It's my favorite show," I didn't know what else to say. He was attractive and I was a mess.
"I'm Travis. What's your name?" The guy diagonal from me ask. My eyes dart over to him. He looked friendly enough. He had ash brown curly hair. Just by the way he was sitting I could tell he was taller. His brown eyes looked as if he already was annoyed with the day.
"Scarlet. Scarlet Foster," I state. Not really in the mood for questions but I know it's going to happen all day.
"How did you find this small town of Birdington, Tennessee?"
"My mom got a job over here, and we moved. I'm originally from Michigan."
"Oh, a huge change of scenery, huh?" Travis asked and I just nodded. The guy on my right introduced himself as Eddy. He was black, nothing wrong with that, but definitely shorter. The lip ring guy still had yet to introduce himself.
"What's your name?" I finally asked the boy, politely.
"Frances," He answers fast as if he despises human interaction. His body language is as if he was ready to kill someone. His eyes looks straight at me, if looks could kill I would be dead.
"Hey Scarlet, don't talk to him. You'll be better off," Travis tells me. Oh how I wish I could've listened to him.
The rest of the class time rushes by. Frances offers to take me to my next class. He really didn't seem that bad, but I decline politely as I already knew how to get to my next class. As soon as the bell rang I rush out the door, and hurries to Spanish II.
Second block isn't that bad. I met my mom's secretary's daughter, Lily. After that, I have the same teacher for the next two blocks, but there was a substitute so it was boring. He asked me the same questions as everyone else. During fourth, apparently, was when lunch was. I'm one of the first people to get there and sit down. I sit alone, too scared to talk to anyone.
When fifth block, geometry, finally comes it feels like it would last forever. I see this tall, skinny, blonde hair girl from across the room. I decide she's annoying as she answers all the questions. I tell myself to stay away from her.
The bell for school to be over, rings. I an the first one out and down to the buses at the front of the school. I see Frances and his friends but don't bother to stop. I wait for the second wave to come, find my bus and get on.
On my way home all I thought about is the boy with the lip ring. My mom wouldn't approve of him, not even as a friend. Plus, this boy he could be a murder for all I know. He might already have a girlfriend who disapproves of me already. Why does all this matter? I don't like him. He's just a pawn in this game we call high school just like me.
If only it was that simple.

Walking into school at about 7:30 I'm ushered to a classroom. I already have my phone off, scared that it might go off and have it confiscated. I sit uncomfortably in a desk looking around the room. I shift multiple times, still nervous that someone will try to talk to me.
As soon as the bell rings I'm up and headed to my first block. Mr. Theo greets me and I head to my seat. I see the lip ring boy, I mean Frances, is already there.
"Mornin' beautiful," he greets me.
"Um, thanks? Good morning," I reply. Maybe he just says that to every girl. I'm even more shocked since I got a greeting from him this morning. He didn't want to talk today. The lip ring also isn't present. I realize I've been staring at his mouth and quickly sit down.
"I like your boots," he says nicely. Oh my god, a compliment too? Well my light brown boots are cute. They come up right below my knee and have laces. There's a zipped on the side since I'm too lazy to untie them.
"Oh, thank you," I smile a genuinely. Travis comes running in right before the bell to take his seat.
Announcements are being said as I look at Frances. His hair is tossed like he had a rough morning. He's wearing a black trench coat that's shorter than normal. He still has a gage in so I didn't imagine that, but where's his lip ring? When we stand for the Pledge of Allegiance, I notice he stands straight up like a soldier. I can also hear him mumble the Pledge but hear no one else doing it.
He turns around as it finishes and notices me staring. "See something you like, sweetheart?"
I blush shaking my head no and sit down. Great now I look like a stalker. Breakfast comes and everyone gets up to go get some except me. I'm not hungry.
"Aren't you going to get breakfast, Scarlet?" Travis asks, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"No," I shakily reply. Frances sits back down next to me. I try to work on the warm up sheet. I quickly glance at him, but he notices and winks. I swallow and continue working.
"So Scarlet, how was your first day?" Frances ask.
"It was okay, scary, but okay. My classes aren't too bad," My hands are shaking as I reply. He gives out a laugh. Why is he trying to have a conversation with me? His appearance isn't so dark and dangerous today.
"You'll get used to it around here in no time. If anyone causes you problems just let me know," I just nod to his reply. Travis tries to get me to open up but it fails. Eddy just makes jokes, hopefully I'll be able to handle him. Throughout the rest of the class Frances makes small flirts to me, which I don't really recognize.
At the end of class I notice a black iPhone come out of Frances's pocket. I want to ask for his number but I don't. The bell rings and I head out the door and towards the stairs, but not before I look back a see him head the other way. I feel disappointed, I don't know why he doesn't mean anything to me.
The end of the day comes a lot faster. When I head towards my bus I see Frances and his crew. I again walk to my bus and get on. This time, though, my thoughts drift to my bed at home.
