Chapter I

"You're not holding your hand up properly Ashia, that's why it isn't working for you. You have to hold it out gently, but feel the energy of the flower rushing into your palm, watch as it wilts as you suck out the life from it," Willa concentrated on the small daisy weed, and I watched as the petals began wilting and frowned.

"Maybe I don't want to suck the life out of it, it's a pretty flower and you're wilting it for fun!"
Willa rolled her eyes and snapped her finger and I watched as it came back to life, "this is why you find it so hard to pick up magic Ashia, what we do we can also undo, with a snap of our finger," she flicked the tip of my nose and rose up from the tall grass we had been hiding in, it pooled around her waist.

Throwing her head back she flung out her arms, a laugh escaping her lips, "feel the sun Ash; feel it soak up into your body. Each time it hits your skin you're filled with life all over again." She twirled in circles giggling, grabbing my arm and pulling me up.

I let out a small smile as we joined hands, spinning wildly around in circles before laughter escaped my throat as we went faster and faster.

"Ready!?" Willa shouted.

I nodded eagerly and we both stopped suddenly, raising our hands in the air. The ground thudded beneath our feet before the sky filled with butterflies as they rose from the grass, flying all around us.

I turned around slowly; watching as the butterflies flew about wildly, setting down on our arms or in our hair.

"I love the spring," I shouted. Willa looked at me and laughed before pulling me into a hug. We danced around before collapsing into the grass once more, out of breath and warm from the sun.

"Do you feel it Ash?" Willa murmured.

"Feel what?" I asked sleepily.

"I feel change," she whispered. "For the good, but it will be big."
My brow furrowed, "but I like things how they are now."

Willa let out a laugh, "nothing stays the same Ash. If things never changed then we wouldn't be doing this right now – we wouldn't be alive – no one would be alive..."

"Okay don't start on that again," I said rising up to my feet. "We should probably head inside Will, mother wanted us back before lunch."

She sighed but got up, linking arms with me as we headed through the grass toward the tall white house that had been our home since birth. Willa chatted and I listened to her, laughing as she described her encounter with Giovanna at school the other day.
"She tried to put a curse on me. Me! Of all people? I'm top of the class..."

Her dark brown hair rested in gentle rolling waves on her neck and down her back, in a delicate contrast to her pale skin. She wore a white sundress that went down to her knees, a blue sash tied around her waist.

She walked with her twin Willa, the outgoing girl with the light brown hair, dressed the same as Ashia but a yellow sash around her waist.

Both beautiful, but only one my bride.

My beautiful Ashia.

They neared the house and I slowly tore my gaze from my delicate bride, back toward her father who paced his office in deep thought. I waited patiently, listening to the sounds throughout the house.
The girls came in laughing, making a lot of nose down in the kitchen as one of them tripped over a broom.
