Chapter XI

"Ashia...Ashia...Wakeup," the voice was smooth and I knew it belonged to Aron. My head felt dizzy as I strayed back into land of the living. Slowly blinking my eyes open I looked directly into Aron's eyes as he crouched in front of me. I was sitting on the floor, leant up against the bed post. The shutters were down and the room was dimly lit with the lamp from beside the bed.

"What happened?" I murmured as my hand went to my head, trying to remember how I had ended up on the floor.

"You fainted love," Aron scooped me up off the floor and moved me to the bed, coming to sit on the edge, "Josie thinks you're exhausted from all the wedding preparation. I'm sorry I haven't been around – I've been tying up some loose ends."

I nodded slowly and picked at the blanket, biting my lip, "okay. Well I'm kind of tired..."

"Of course," he said as he stood up, pulling back the blankets and draping them over me. "Love do you know why you fainted?" His eyes focused on mine and I wondered if I should disclose that I had managed to use some magic.

"N-no...I was brushing my hair and everything felt funny," I lied.

He nodded and began unbuttoning his shirt, shrugging it to the floor before he unbuttoned his black pants. I averted my eyes to my hands before I felt the weight in the bed dip. Aron pulled up the blankets before I felt him slide me over to his side of the bed, trapping me against his chest.  I felt his hand graze over my stomach as he placed a kiss on my shoulder.

"I know you're not in love with me Ashia," he murmured into the darkness of the room. "I wasn't expecting a mate bond to make you fall in love with me. I know you love me...but you aren't in love with me."

Biting my lip I rolled over to face him, trying not to flinch at the sad look in his eyes. "A-Aron...I just...I know barely anything about you."

He nodded in understanding, "vampires are passionate creatures, as violent as we can be, we love just as violently. I'm already so lost in love with you, my beauty. I know we went back eight steps when I hurt you," I watched as regret washed over his features and I looked down at his chin to avoid eye contact.

I felt his finger under my chin as he had a look of promise on his face, "I am sorry for that. I will spend the rest of my life making up for it. And I will make you fall in love with me, even if it takes me to my last breath."

I wasn't sure what I could say to that...he had made me promises before...would he follow through this time? Feeling his lips gently press against mine, his arms encircled around me and pulled me closer into his arms. It was then I made my decision...if he could try to be better to me...I could try at this relationship.

We lay in silence for a while, our breaths even and at some point became in sync with each other. We had taken a step forward and I was happy – happy that he was trying more and happy that I felt I could give this a chance.

"I have a brother," Aron's voice broke the silence of the still room. "Not blood...but he may as well be."

My interested piqued at this, he had never mentioned it before. "What's his name?"

"Sebastian," he said the name with humour, most likely recalling fond memories. "He lives a State over from your old clan actually. He met his bride recently...he'll be at the wedding."
