Chapter Two
Eventually we made it to Blacksmith and we got seated. It was only around 9 in the morning so it wasn't too crowded.
"I don't know what to get," I complained.
"Get whatever you want. Training starts in like, six hours."
"True, true," I agreed with Allie.
"I'm getting coffee with a farmers omelet and toast," Meghan announced.
"I'm getting that too," Lindsey said.
"I know what I'm getting now," I started after looking over the menu. "I'm getting a coffee and a Belgium waffle with strawberries and bacon on the side."
"Up top," Tobin said and high fived me. "That's what I'm getting too."
"Same," Allie said and tried to get in our high five.
"Wow, great minds think alike," Tobin sarcastically cheered
We eventually ordered what we wanted and the wait for the food was supposed to be about 15 minutes. During that time period we once again did what we did best, talk about random things. We mostly talked about family and then the conversation wondered. I found myself quietly just sitting there while everybody else talked about the national team. I hadn't noticed until now that I was the only one here that hadn't ever played for the national team before.
While they talked about whatever they were talking about involving the national team, I thought of my promise that I made with my dad when I was younger.
"I promise I'll play for the national team. Just for you!"
I chuckled to myself at the memory. I wonder what my dad must've been thinking. He was probably thinking how unlikely my dream was and how likely it was that when I was older my dream would be cut up in pieces. He was also probably thinking how determined I was even as a toddler. Maybe he though about how when I grew up my dream's possibilities would be cut up in a billion pieces but not the dream it was. It's actually possible to make more possibilities, as long as I'm determined enough. After all, I once had a dream that we had waffles and strawberries for breakfast on a Monday with no school, and that ended up happening. Moral of the (short) story, dreams do come true. Literally.
You idiot! Your dad wasn't thinking that! You were!
I laughed at myself and my foolish thinking. I'll do pretty much anything to inspire myself, even make up a story to the point where I seem pathetic.
"Abbey...you okay?"
I shook my head, startled at the sight of a blurry hand waving in from of my face.
"What? Yeah," I said and let my eyes focus on the hand that turned out to be Lindsey's. "I was just thinking about something stupid."
"No surprise there," she said and laughed. "Anyway, the food is here."
A delicious aroma filled my nostrils as heaven on a plate was pushed in front of my face.
"Fuck yes," I whispered quietly.
"I heard that," Meghan said from the other end of the table and we all laughed.
We ate our food in silence, enjoying everything bite. Being the pig I am, I finished my waffles and bacon first. I moved on to the strawberries occasionally sipping my coffee before it was all gone. Stuffed, I waited for everybody else to finish.
"Man am I full," Meghan groaned.
"I could still eat more food," Lindsey said and shrugged.
"Me too," Tobin said eating a piece of bacon that Allie didn't finish. "Are you going to drink your coffee?"
"Yes I'm going to drink my coffee, you cow," Allie scolded Tobin. Tobin flashed a mild smile in return.
The bill came and Meghan payed because it was her turn. Last time it was Tobin's and the next time it will be my turn. We had a little system like that so we didn't have to split the bill. It starts with Allie and then Tobin, Meghan, Me, and Lindsey. I came up with the idea myself, actually.
"Shit, now we gotta walk back,"'I complained.
"Abbey! Watch your language," Tobin teased me.
"Oops," I said and rolled my eyes.

We finally made it back to our hotel rooms. I immediately collapsed in the middle of the unmade bed that Lindsey and I shared. On the way back from breakfast we stopped and took some pictures with fans and looked in some little shops, so it took us a while to venture back.It was only 12:15 and training started at three so we had a my of time to kill until then. I got off the bed changed into a something a little lighter because the sweatshirt I was wearing was really heavy. I went from a high school soccer sweatshirt to a tournament shirt with my number 22 proudly printed on the back.
22 has always been my number. You could imagine how relieved I felt when I found out I could carry my number on my back with the Thorns.
"Dagny texted me and asked if I wanted to play a game with Emily and Kendall. I'm going down to the room thingy," I told Lindsey.
"Okay. I should be down there in a bit," she said without looking up from her phone.
I made my way down to the room the hotel provided our team. This room is basically where everybody could hang out together if they wanted to. It had a ton of furniture and a couple TVs.
I made my way to the corner of the room where Dagny was waving at me. The game Life was set up in the middle of the three of them and I sat down and joined them.
"Dude this game is the shit," I said sitting down and they agreed.
-
A couple hours later it was told to get ready for training. I threw on all of my gear and Lindsey and I made our way to Tobin and Allie's room where we would continue to walk together. Everybody drove to training but the four of us and Meghan would always walk. Together we made our way to the lobby where Meghan was waiting and started our journey from there."Why does everybody else drive," Meghan wondered out loud.
"Maybe they don't want to be noticed," Allie suggested.
"Please," I said. "You guys are the most well known people on the team. You guys literally just won a World Cup like eight months ago!"
"Okay, that's kind of true," Tobin said.
"And don't take this the wrong way guys, but if you were to get attacked, there is no way I'm not leaving you all behind."
