It had been a few years. Link was now ten years old. Simon had still not returned and the battle seemed to still be going on. Link was growing fast and missed his father every day. He had become one of the most generous boys in Ordon Village and helped out with Fado's ranch in his spare time.
One day, Link had received a letter from the Hylian Guard. He was overjoyed and ran to tell his mother. "Mom! We got a letter from the Hylian Guard!" She smiled. "Go ahead and read it without me." She was gardening. "I'll be in to read it in a little bit." She said with her nose in the bushes. "Okay!" Link ran inside with the letter and sat down with it. He opened it and there were a few letters. One for Elena, one for him, and one for the both of them. Link opened the one for him. It read:
Dear Link,
If you are getting this, this means I will not be coming home. I was made write this if I were to be killed on the battlefield. I'm so sorry I will not be able to see you grow up. You are so brave and I know that you will do great things when you get older. You and your mother were the greatest things that ever happened to me and even though I have passed, I don't want you to grieve for me. I will see you again someday if Hylia grants it. You are the most amazing child and you will make this world a greater place. I hope you can become a strong swordsman with not only courage, but mercy.
You are are great child and I love you very much. I'm sorry. Please take care of your mother for me. I know you will serve Hyrule. I am so sorry I am not coming home. I'm sorry for not being there for you. I'm sorry for not being the best father I could be. I'm sorry for everything. I love you very much... Thank you for making my life so much greater. Thank you for being such a great son. Goodbye.
Love, Daddy
Link read through the letter with tears in his eyes. Once he finished reading he dropped it on the table and ran out the door, hugging his mother from behind, crying. She turned around. "Honey? What's wrong?" She asked, turning around and hugging him. "D-D-Daddy's dead!" He cried. Elena's eyes widened, not believing the news she had just heard. Tears flooded her eyes and she fell to her knees crying. "No... Simon... Simon can't be dead." She sobbed.
After a flood of tears was shed, they went inside and Elena read the letters. She had received one very similar to Link's. The third letter read:
Dear Grieving Loved Ones,
We are eternally sorry for your loss of you husband and father. Simon was a brave soldier and had made this fight much easier to win. We are going to win this war thanks to his sacrifices. We are so very sorry that he did not survive. We are all very upset at his passing.
We thank you for letting him come, for he was one of the souls that gave it his all and was a pleasure to work with. He told us stories of his family and how his son had saved his life when he was very little. He told us of how wonderful his family was and how he was planning on returning after he won this war. That plan did not fulfill itself unfortunately, but we are grateful to have met him.
We are very sorry for your loss. We will all miss him.
- The Hylian Guard
Elena and Link cried their hearts out upon reading these letters. Simon was gone.

Orphaned Ordanion
FanfictionWe all know the story of Link, but in Twilight Princess, we don't know of how he was orphaned. So, I decided to create a story of it. Hope you enjoy. (I made up the names of his parents and I own none of the pictures)
