It was late August and swealtering outside. All of the townsfolk were outside preparing for the harvest.

My name is Tristen Stacy. I'm fifteen years old but I'm still treated like a child by nearly everyone. I thought that it was complete rubbish, but that's Dragos for you.

Dragos is a small town owned by the kindom of Silthion, and my home.

Dragos only has a few feilds, some cottages, a couple of cows and a large lake at the center of it all.

I live with my mum Ann and my brother Guy. I never knew my father, he left before I was born. All I know is that he must have been a great man 'cuase mum won't shut up about him, it gets quite old. Mum is very tall and thin, Guy as well, but I'm short and my weight is somewhere in the middle. Not skinny, but not fat either. I'm pretty satisfied with my appearance.

Guy is only eight yet he has seen much sorrow. Dragos was always being attacked by thugs and the King's men kept coming to ruthlessly break us down to nothing.

At this time the king of Siltion is Mikeal(Mik-eel) Dragonheart. Mikeal didn't understand or care about us. Mikeal had a wife,Queen Grace, and two children, Coal and Rose. Coal is the same age as me and Rose is ten, two years older than Guy. Queen Grace had died two years ago from an odd illness. Since then Mikeal had turned his back on us and out-lawed more and more each day.

The day is the seventeenth of August. Today started like anyother, I was in my room lying upon my bed reading my book of magic. I am a sorceress after all and need to keep up with my studies. "Tristen!" My mum bellowed, startling me which forced me to throw my book in the air and shatter the vase on my nightstand. "Mum! You made me break my vase!" I yelled from the doorway. "Not my problem!" She yelled back. "Now get your butt down here!" With a sigh I sauntered down the hall and into the kitchen. "What is it?" I snapped. "For one, you don't speak to me like that," She started with her hands on hips. "Second, this place is a complete mess and we have guests coming." I raised an eyebrow at her. "What do you mean we have guests coming, who?" I knew that I wasn't going to like her answer but I was quite curious to see who the guests were. "Your cousin Laura." At frist I didn't know who she was talking about. "Laura?" I questioned. "Yes, Laura Davis, Bore's duaghter." I slammed my foot on the ground in an act of anger. "Why her? Why today? Why at all?!" My mum took a deep breath then tried to explain. "Her mother just passed and I thought that it would be nice for Bore to get a break so he could get everything ready for the funeral." I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms. "Mum, you know how much I despise Laura! She's just a spoiled rotten brat that gets everything she wants!" "You don't have to like her!" Mum yelled. "But she's coming and that's final." I hated Laura. She was a stuck up rich girl who lives inside the King's court. I didn't understand why mum had to help Bore out. Bore was her half brother. But I still don't care. I don't like nor care for him or the rest of his family. "Now go get dressed then come right back down to help me clean." Mum finally said, breaking the tension. I headed up to my room with a dustpan and broom in my hand. I walked into my room and swept up the broken glass, placing it in the trash bin. I made my bed and picked up the dirty clothes from off the floor, placing them all in a basket. I went to my dresser and pulled out a tangerine dress and corset. "Tristen," I turned to see Guy standing in the doorway. "Yes?" I replyed in a gentle tone. "Why is that brat Laura coming over?" There was tension and hate in hie voice. "Mum wanted to help out Uncle Bore." I answered. "Why?" He groaned. "Aunt Lucile just passed and shewnated for Bore to have enough time planning the funeral." Just thinking of death saddened me, even if it was the death of a wicked person. "Oh." Guy said this in a way that made it sound like he didn't care about a family member dying. I understand where he's coming from, Aunt Lucile was worse than Laura and that's saying something. Time was ticking and Laura would be here soon. "Hey, Guy. Could you leave for a second, I kind of need to get dressed." He sighed. "Okay, but can you promise me that you won't leave alone with that beast?" I giggled. "Not even for a second." Once he left I closed the door and got dressed. I grabbed my comb and brushe dmy thick dark hair. "Tristen!" Mum yelled, startling me once again. "Yes mum?" I sighed. "You need to get down here and help me finish cleaning." I groaned. "Ugh. Fine I'll be there in a second." I placed my comb on my nightstand then went to the kitchen. I straightened up the the room the best I could. I had finished my chores just in time. There was a loud rap at the door. I sighed then put away the broom. "Mum, they're here!" I shouted down the hall. "Well don't just stand there!" She yelled from her room. "Let them in!"
