The next morning, I pulled into my school parking lot, tired and definitely not wanting to be there. I originally planned on not going but being that I missed a day of school last week, I had to make it at least another two weeks without being absent or tardy. It was a rule of mine.
I had no time to even turn my car off by time Becky came and knocked on my window rapidly. "Tia! Roll down your window! It's important!"
I did so, hoping my sunglasses would hide my eye roll. "What is it?"
"Ryan's looking for you," she said in a hushed tone.
"Ryan who?"
"Ryan Bennet!" She said. "Remember from tenth grade? You were literally in love with him!"
She wasn't lying. I do think I was in love with Ryan Bennet. Who wasn't? He was somewhat like a jock, but he never behaved like the stereotypical idiot that only knew sports and knew how to study by copying homework and test answers. He was so intelligent and sweet. He kind of seemed like an angel. The way his shoulder length, dirty blonde hair flowed in the wind and glistened when the sun shone. His white smile could blind his enemies with just one grin. He was the true Prince Charming.
"Shut up. I'm the last person he wants to talk to. And if he does want to talk to me, he'll come and see me, no?" I sipped my Starbucks mocha frappé and choked as Prince Charming knocked on my passenger side window.
His pearly whites flashed across his face. "Hey, Ti! Mind if I get in?"
I didn't say a word. I turned to see that my best friend had disappeared and I was left with Tarzan. I unlocked the door and smiled at him, motioning for him to get in.
He slid his book bag off of his broad shoulders and got in. I felt like I was sweating. Mind you, this is the beginning of October. It was rather cool outside. It had to have been him.
"What's up?" I managed to get out of my mouth.
"Nothing really, just looking at this year's Homecoming Queen." He smiled again, twisted in my seat.
I could feel my face shifting from a genuine smile to a confused frown. "What are you talking about? I didn't run."
"But you're going to. I'll be your king." He chuckled. This sounded more like a demand than an offer.
"I've never run for anything like that, how do you know I'll get anything at all?"
He took my hand into his. My heart sped up it's pulse. "Because I just know. Trust me, girl. You're intelligent, funny, beautiful. You'll win. Those Barbie bitches don't stand a chance against you. Because they're plastic and you're a hundred percent." He kissed the back of my hand gently, sending chills up my arm, and giving me goosebumps. I heard a gasp come from none other than my lips. "But if you need time to think about it, just let me know. I'll give you the time you need."
"Okay, I'll text you and let you know." I blushed and nodded my head.
Ryan took my hand and wrote his number on my palm. Opening the car door, he kissed my cheek before getting out. I spent five more minutes sitting in awe of the dream come true that I had just witnessed.
After my first class of psychology where I couldn't get those blonde curls out of my head, I was being called up to the front office. Not for check out as I had hoped. I had no idea of who or what it could have been for me. My dad was teaching classes all the way across the school. It couldn't have been him. If it was, he would've texted me and told me to come by during class change.
Arriving to the lobby, where nothing was held but the school logo on the floor tiles, vending machines, and two benches, I saw my other Prince Charming. More so my King. His red hair was combed back and he was freshly shaven as always. He greeted me with a smile as soon as his sight touched my skin.
"Hey, Mr. Fassbender." I smiled back at him, stopping in front of him but not too close. What are you doing here?
"Hey, girly," he handed me a bag. "Hope you weren't forgetting about these. Your clothes that you left last week. Becky was supposed to bring them to you but she 'forgot.'" A chuckle escaped his soft lips. I could tell they were soft. I also wanted to kiss them. Who knew who was looking though? Couldn't risk it.
"Oh thank you!" I exclaimed. "I was actually looking for this shirt this morning, I-"
"Actually I came because I wanted to see you." He cut me off in a soft tone. "You look amazing today."
Yeah, because blue skinny jeans, black flats, and a red and black plaid flannel is definitely sexy. I blushed anyways. I doubted anyone could tell by the color of my cheeks, but they could tell by my face if it was obvious enough. "Thank you," I remembered this weekend and his using me. "I have to get back to class now."
I spun on my heels and began walking back with the bag tight in my hands. I knew he was still watching me.
"I'll see you Saturday then?" He asked.
I looked back at him. "I won't be going."
I looked away and continued to walk out before I could see the reaction on his face. It hurt saying it. It was a decision that I made up and there was no going back. I couldn't be played. I wouldn't be played.
