A week passed since we lost Josie. I've hardly eaten anything. Sean keeps asking me if I'm okay but I keep telling him I'm fine even though I think he sees that I'm not. We cuddle in bed sometimes, but it's not like it was when Josie was here. Her bed is still where we left it. The blankets haven't moved since she left.
It's Monday again. I wake up at 7:30 and take a shower. The routine is the same every morning, Monday through Friday. The hot water feels nice against my back and I relax a little. Losing Josie is still hard, but I have a hope that I will get her back. I know I will.
The shower water starts running cold. I know that I have been in too long. I turn off the water, dry myself with a towel and then change into my clothes for the day. I put on black athletic shorts and an old band tee of a band that I didn't like anymore.
Going into the kitchen, I smell bacon. Sean has been hopping around on crutches this week and it's nice when he makes me breakfast. I love it. I know he's trying to make me happy. It works a little bit but not much.
My phone alarm goes off at 7:30. It's my time to go to school alarm. I kiss Sean as I grab my keys and walk out the door. Derek waves as I walk by. He knows what happened and he told me that he misses her too. Josie made everyone happy. She made me forget abut the murder of my family. Instead I loved a little girl like she was my own.
On my way to school I played music. The volume wasn't up loud. I just wasn't in the mood. Mickey called me while I was driving. "Hello," I answer.
"Hey, are you coming to classes today?" She asks.
I nod my head and then realize that she can't see me. "Yeah I am. I always come to classes."
"Okay I was just making sure. I'm bringing donuts to make you feel better," Mikaela says. She knows I will dye for donuts.
"Are they Krispy creme?" I ask. Those are like my favorite.
"No, they are the fruit loops ones. Yes they are Krispy creme. I know how much you love your donuts and the brand. I'm also bring you a mocha from Starbucks. I feel like you could use one today. "
"Thanks for thinking of me," I say and laugh a little.
"I will always think about you. We are like family. I will do anything for you. I will even beat the shit out of Sean if he ever hurts you. You know that," Mickey and I laugh. The reasons why I love her.
I end the call with Mickey as I pulled into campus. Mickey was sitting in her car with the box of donuts on the passenger seat. I park next to her and get out of my rust bucket of a truck. She opens her door and hands me the mocha. Man it smelled good. I take a sip and burn my tongue in the process. "Dumbass. It says caution: contents may be hot." I shoot her a death look and we just laugh. Mikaela takes the box of donuts and we walk to the back of my truck. I pull down the tailgate. Mikaela hands me the box of donuts and she hops up. I then hand her the box so I could get on. When we both were up, she handed me a doughnut. I smelled it like it was drugs. When I want paying attention, Mickey took a picture and put it on her Snapchat. The caption was: SHE HIGH FOR DA DOUGHNUT!!
I laugh and eat my doughnut. My phone vibrates and I loom at the time. It's time for class. I take a sip of my coffee and say, "Thanks for the coffee and the doughnut. I really needed it."
"No problem. I'm always there for you babe," Mickey says. We hug and she walks to class. I turn and walk towards my class. I was the only one there when I entered. I took my seat in the back of the class and pulled out my phone. I had a text from Sean.
Sean: hey babe. How are you? I'm missing u rn.
Me: I'm fine. I miss u too babe. Mikaela brought me a coffee and a donut.
