|| Sly's POV ||
A headache shook me awake, it was almost sun down which meant i had slept for a whole day. A whole day? Fuck. I wasted so much of how little time i had. I sat straight on the bed and couldnt put my thoughts straight. What happened. I felt the familiar texture of my mask in my hands, must've fallen asleep with it. The more i looked at it the more thoughts came back to me. I wondered about Delirious, where would he be hiding at the moment, would he be alone like me?
I looked at the money i had left and took a deep breath. I needed to eat something today, make some money and see how i will survive for the rest of the week. I decided to do a round around the block here, somewhere someone must have lost some money. I searched in the dumpsters, maybe i could sell some newspapers but most were from today and that was almost over. Three hours passed and it gave me about 10 bucks, it would get me a small meal but i was losing hope.
Windows closed as i walked by and suddenly i felt very alone. It was cold outside and i put my hands in the pockets of my jacket. My mask was in there but i felt something else too. I grabbed the mask and i felt a shock going trough me. A very tiny plastic bag was taped to the back of the mask.
I still have some.
I shook my head and took it off . Firmly i closed my hands around the drugs, i knew i have to stop. It will only get me in more trouble, but i need the money. I need to survive. I told myself i will stop, but not right now. Not today.
I went to some of my usual addresses. Most of them weren't home, probably at the club getting stoned and drunk out of their minds. But luckily the last woman would buy it from me, i handed it over to her and gladly armed myself around her money.
She shuffled back into the shadows, not that here was much place for her to go to. The place she called home were just some newspapers and carton on the ground. I got a cold shiver thinking about it. That could soon be me.
I left her alone as i backed out of the alleyway. I looked around and noticed i had wandered quite far into the city. Right now i found myself at the docking side. And i decided to go watch the boats before it would be too dark to see.
Tonight it had started to cool down very fast and my breath formed little clouds in the air. There was no boat traffic at the moment which was disappointing, i always like to watch them. And how the water skiers did their tricks. But i understood, it is late and cold. I just sat on the water side, concentrating on the slow rhythm of the boats as the water moved them side to side.
Suddenly, a loud explosion ripped me from my thoughts and made me jump up. It sounded extremely close and as i turned around i saw one of the big warehouses being overflown in high flames.
I was staring at the flames for a couple of seconds before thinking that the explosion must have blown some still useful things away, easy for everyone to just run for and grab. But that means i could have competition if someone had the same thought.
As fast as i could i made my way to the fire, while i sprinting to get there first i noticed a shadow figure on my right side, someone else who swiftly made their way across the docking. They were much faster than me and when i had finally reached the spot there was nothing left except for some dirt and burnt wood. This can't go on like this. I stood there for a while, slightly defeated and with a rumbling stomach. I was so hungry.
Angrily i kicked the wood away. I decided to continue searching once the fire had died down which seemed to be quite soon. There was nothing where it could get new fuel from and all that was left were black pieces of wood and whatever was flammable in the warehouse turned black. But most things had turned into a pile of white ash.
I sighed as i saw most of the scavengers run off with all the stuff they had found, most of it looked like drugs which didn't surprise me.
And i was here with empty hands.
Another waste of my time.
I decided it would be best to give in for today and get something to still my hunger. Slowly started to stumble across the burnt place, it was an upsetting sight to see. I wondered if there were people inside when it happened. If so, they surely wouldn't have survived. Tonight the moon was out and she lit the path for me. The clouds out of my mouth and the icy feeling on my hands and cheeks told me it was freezing. I tried to blow hot air on it and it helped a small bit. But it would take some time to get warm, i hope i can make it to my new place.
I was kicking the wood out of my path and almost reached the end of the docking when i heard a small moan of pain. My back straightened, i had no way of defending myself against anyone the cops still had my knives. But they sounded hurt and in need of help instead of hostile. Did they get hurt by the fire? I have to help.
It was now followed by a growl of pain, it sounded like it was the last they could get out with what little energy there was. I decided to follow where the noise came from.
