"Kitsune?" Her head turned towards the person saying her name, but her eyes were still trained on the wall. "Something wrong?" Neji was standing in the doorway and had been for a few minutes, but Kitsune had mentally drifted off again and simply ignored his presence.
Kitsune nodded, pulling her legs up towards her chest and placing her chin on her knees, watching Neji walk cautiously into the room. I'm not dangerous... she sighed, rolling her head to the side and staring at the wall again.
"You know why we had to keep you in here, right?" He asked, hovering one hand over her hesitantly before returning it to his side. "It's for your own safety as well as the villagers, Orochimaru could have planned for you to escape and..." Kitsune tuned him out, letting her mind drift off once more.
This time, instead of an ordinary cement wall, she saw the boy from earlier... the one they had called Kiba. Her ears instinctively flattened against her head, the red triangles on his face sticking out like a sore thumb in her mind.
"H-hey," Neji shook her leg roughly, forcing her back into reality. "You're shaking." She glanced down at Neji's steady hand, seeing her leg visibly shaking underneath his steady grasp. "Tsunade should be in soon, I'll let her know you're not feeling well." He gave her comforting squeeze before leaving the room, hovering in the doorway for a moment before leaving.
I feel just fine, she snapped inwardly, rubbing away the grime Neji's hand had left on her leg and sighing. Everyone has been so nice... she licked the back of her hand and ran it over her flattened ears, feeling them spring back up. I just wish I could remember who they were.
"We discovered a way to restore your larynx," Kitsune turned her head to look at Tsunade, who had walked in, seemingly indifferent to Kitsune's inner battle. "There is one condition, though." She turned, actually making eye contact with Kitsune. "You must share your memories with us so we can locate Orochimaru's hideout."
Kitsune nodded, knowing exposing Orochimaru would work out perfectly fine for both parties... in fact, it seemed like she was winning in this deal. Can you fix my memories...?
"Unfortunetly, it looks as though the amnesia is permanent... we haven't discovered any way to retrieve lost memories, just forgotten or sealed ones." Tsunade answered as if she'd heard Kitsune asking. "But we should take it one step at a time."
Whatever... Kitsune turned her head back towards the cement wall, listening to the footsteps up and down the hall instead of Tsunade, who was explaining the risks of the surgery. I don't care about the risks... I don't care about anything...
Reality had begun to set in for her, the fact that she had no home... no friends... no memories... what did she have? Pretty shitty life, she scoffed and rubbed her eye with her knuckle, realizing Tsunade was still rambling about the procedure.
"Right, let's get you prepped for surgery."
-
"She's back?!" Tsume laughed, running her hand through her hair. "Now you can stop sittin' in your bedroom and dreaming about her, go get her!"
"It's not that simple..." Kiba sighed, his voice barely audible over his mother's hysterics.
"The hell it's not! She's in the village, how can it get any easier to see her?" Her voice bordered on annoyance, but as a mother Kiba could tell she was trying her best to be compassionate...
"She's mute, for one-"
"Okay, so no more of that damn fighting you two used to do." Tsume plopped down at the table, slamming the heels of her boots into the table's surface and leaving a distinct black mark underneath them.
